As other people have stated, this place is really good value. It's not the newest Comfort Hotel we stayed in, but isn't as dated as the Kyoto one, and the position in Shinsaibashi is fantastic.
We needed 2 rooms as we were with our 17 year old son, and our 22 year old daughter who is working in Osaka at the moment stayed with us also. This was so we could all go out at night for dinner and she didn't have to go back to her place late at night on her own.
I looked at the Cross Hotel as it sounds nice, but 2 rooms there would have been about AU$400 while 2 rooms at the Comfort Hotel Shinsaibashi cost us less than $200 a night total.
One room was a twin and one a double as I couldn't get 2 twins. This was the only downside to our stay as the double is really tiny and only suitable for one person, but my husband and I had to share it, so that our son and daughter could have the twin room. I would recommend couples try to get a twin room as the double has the bed pushed against a wall, and no bedside tables or lamps.
There were 2 convenience stores for snacks and drinks nearby, and numerous restaurants. One night we walked down to Dotombori which is amazing at night with all the lights and shouldn't be missed. Shinsaibashi Station is a short walk away and has the Midosuji subway which takes you north or south and which we used a lot to get around.
This hotel was the first one we stayed at in Japan and made a good impression on us. We would go back there again if we could get a twin room. For the amount they charge, Comfort Hotels are very good value. The free breakfast is basic, but sets you up for the day with good coffee and fruit, yoghurt, cereal, bread, rice cakes and boiled eggs available.
You get free internet in the room, and the air-con is able to be set at the temperature you like. The bathroom is a tiny pre-fabricated type and has a step down into the room which I didn't like, but it's a small negative.
The people at the desk were very nice and most spoke some English. It was great to be able to wash and dry our clothes in the coin washer and dryer, and there was a drink dispenser if we didn't feel like walking down to the convenience store.
This really is a good place for the low price. I booked well ahead on the Choice Hotels website and got the over 55 discount . I don't think you'd have much chance of getting a room at the last minuute as these hotels seem very popular.

Stayed 3 nights. From the reviews was expecting a great value and got exactly that. Nice clean, though compact rooms, WIFI among the fastest and best I have found in Japan (traveling on business, so needed to communicate frequently with office via email and Skype). Location near Shinsaibashi shopping area and Subway makes this location great for finding food and other needed items (convenience stores less than a block in either direction). Staff personable and know enough English to be able to communicate reasonably.
As noted by others, the breakfast is nothing special, but free, and adequate. Paid $65 US a night. Will be staying there again in mid-June rate apx. $60 US a night. Can't say enough how great a value this is, not just for Japan but for any country! Will not even consider staying anywhere else when visiting Osaka!!

This is five star worthy just for the value and location alone. My single room was clean, the staff was friendly and Osaka was wonderful. WiFi was a great addition as well.....hotel is in a perfect location to walk around all day and night. If you've never been to Japan, be prepared for something to do at all hours. Have fun!

I stayed here last month with my parents who were on their first trip to Japan.
The hotel is in an excellent location - five minutes from Shinsaibashi subway station and smack bang in the Shinsaibashi shopping area. Also about five minutes to Dotomburi. I had a single room which was fine for me. Double bed, usual tiny bathroom, bar fridge, desk, and free wifi. The room also had a large window and split system heater/cooler so you could control the temperate (Hotel rooms in Japan are often very hot and stuffy)
Desk staff were friendly and spoke enough English though if you had a problem I suspect you might have a bit of trouble communicating.
Breakfast was OK, small range of Western and Japanese food - cereal, sweet rolls, onigiri, salad.
The hotel is cheap and in a fantastic location, I recommend it for anyone wanting to stay in the entertainment area of Osaka.
