My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Lorensberg while attending a conference. The hotel is right between the convention center and the "Avenyn" so it is a great location. Both places are just 2-3 short blocks away. The neighborhood is quiet and the breakfast plentiful. I appreciated the tea, coffee and afternoon treats in the lobby.
We stayed in room 501, which was on the top floor and quite spacious. According to the floor plan, it looked like we had one of the biggest rooms. The single rooms looked quite small and were confirmed by other guests as being rather tight on space, so if space is a big deal and you are not sharing a room, consider requesting a double. The amenities are basic but very clean; the hotel does sell toiletries like toothbrushes and toothpaste downstairs (along with sandwiches and snacks), in case you forget them.
There is a free computer in the lobby, along with for-fee wireless access in the rooms.

I stayed a few days here for a business trip: it's a charming and quiet place, near the convention center, the Scandinavium and the Liseberg Park, 15mn away from the city hall by foot.
Good atmosphere, coffee and tea free in the lobby, as well as ADSL internet connection.
Breakfast is average but sufficient.

Excellent place to stay in Gothenburg

We stayed in the Lorensberg 4 nights in October 2004. The staff was wonderful, and the breakfast was one of the best we had in Scandanavia. This was our first visit to Gothenburg - the staff was eager to help us and made a few phone calls for us (we do not speak Swedish). In October, many sites close or have shortened hours. They helped us navagate to the Volvo Museum and the "East India Man" ship yard. The Paddan Boats were closed for the year, but they helped us find the Water Taxi across the Gota river. We found this property the right blend of Sweden and American friendlyness. Very resonable for the value received. I 100% recommend it to American tourists. Gothenburg is a great big little town. Don't miss the HAGA neighbourhood.

This is an older hotel with great service and clean rooms with comfortable beds. I've traveled the world and slept in many rooms and therefore I'm ready to give this hotel the top grade. The only thing I could complain about is the small TV in the room but they that's nothing really. You will have a wonderful breakfast buffet incuded in the price. If you come to Gothenburgh this place is worth the stay.
It's also downtown so you can walk to most places.
