My husband and I stayed at Periscope while we were on our honeymoon. We stopped in Athens on our way to Santorini. The hotel is in the Kolonaki district of Athens. This is the perfect area to stay, lots of shopping, great restaurants and cafes, very clean and safe. The hotel manager gave us great suggestions of local places to go. There were a few downfalls to the hotel, however; the rooms were very small and even though we got a non-smoking room, it still smelled of smoke. But, overall it was a great hotel - the staff was friendly and helpful, the location was perfect and the rooms were clean. I would recommend to anyone staying in Athens.

Periscope is a modern hip hotel. It's located in a trendy part of town, not where you'd find tourists, but rather chic Athenians (Kolonaki district.) Kolonaki itself is very pleasant with many cafes, restaurants, and shops. We stayed in a suite, it was stylish and comfortable size-wise. The regular rooms tend to be small. Everything in the room was well appointed and the balcony was large (not much of a view though.) The bed was very comfortable, we slept very well. The bathroom was clean and modern and had great toiletteries, Korres Natural Products- a greek line. Other little comforts in the room were robes, slippers, a safe, and some delicious chocolate covered seeds. The breakfast buffet is pretty basic but good. The staff were really wonderful people. They went out of their way to make us reservations and get us all the information we needed for our trip. Overall, I highly recommend Periscope hotel. We had a great stay and we'll be back.

Modern chic Boutique Hotel

This is a very nice little boutique hotel in the chic Kolonaki district, very sleek and could feel a little too "designed" if that's not your cup of tea. It's not right in the thick of action or the main tourist spots but that suited us fine. Main shopping area of Monistiraki is only about 10 minutes walk away, while the Acropolis and Agora are about 20 minutes away. This hotel is a little pricey, but the service was excellent and personal. The room was stylishly decorated with a good sized shower equipped with a large rain shower head, no bathtub in our Superior Room though. We copped out one night and decided to stay in and order some pizza for dinner. The staff at the front desk was really helpful in providing various menus and helped with translating the Greek menus. Overall, a pleasurable stay. :)

Beware of the Standard Room

The Periscope is contemporary, very clean and orderly but size is not its virtue! If you can imagine the interior dimensions of a submarine, you can imagine the size of the standard room at the Periscope. Unfortunately, no upgrade was available when we checked in prior to seeing the room. My boyfriend and I took crude measurements of the room by extending both of our arms - fingertips touching. From his left hand to my right hand, represented the length and width of the standard room 12.5 X 12.5 (not including the bathroom). Now, that said obviously we didn't come all the way to Greece to hang out in our hotel room. However with all of the luggage for a two week vacation, plus two adults, the room was extremely cramped. The hotel placed just about everything in the room that a full sized room could hold including a desk and chair. Slippers and robes were in the closet, treats and a welcome note were waiting for us when we arrived in the room. The bed was comfortably firm and the pillows were soft - I believe - down filled. The bathroom was small and contemporary. There was even a stocked refrigerated bar in the room as well. Extra Towels were available in a self service linen room just down the hall. Nelly at the front desk was very helpful about places to go and how best to get there. Breakfast was served daily: a variety of juices, crepes with chocolate sauce to spread on them, tomatoes, cheeze, sausage, fruit and cereal. The area of Kolonaki is a great place to get your Greece tour started. Kolonaki is like "Soho" in New York. Lot's of shops, designer, trendy and upscale. Great taverns, Starbucks and a 20 minute walk to the Acropolis. Don't forget to go to Plaka for lots of souvenirs. I would recommend this standard room at the Periscope only for a solo traveler. We would stay at the hotel again only in a larger room.

Perfect hotel for the business traveller!

I chose this hotel for the "look" and the location - in the heart of Kolonaki! Location met expections - "look" did not. I spent two nights in a junior suite - very modern minimalist look but also very minimalist in size. Very few amenities - this is the perfect hotel for the business travellor! Service was very good - quick and courteous.
