"Having read these reviews before staying in this hotel I was expecting the worst. It is true about it being in the middle of a french council estate, and scarily there are dogs that patrol the grounds to keep them out!! But once you are in the hotel you forget all this. There are some really good deals..."

My husband and I stayed at the Chateau in June for one night whilst we visited a WW1 memorial nearby. As the previous reviews mention the drive from the nearby town to the Chateau is very strange and the blocks of flats around the chateau make you feel like you are in the middle of a council estate. The staff are very pleasant, although I made the mistake of saying my one french word, bonjour, and fooling everyone into thinking I could speak the language. Not a good move, and I felt pretty stupid! Anyway, our room was not in the chateau (which looked very nice inside) but in the park area behind. It was strange to stay in a little chalet (one of many) but this matched what we paid I suppose! The chalet comprised clean bathroom with good shower, and bedroom with mini bar, tv and was also clean. However I'm not quite sure what the very strong smell was, but it was similar to damp. To stay in the chalet for one night served our purpose, but I would stay in the Chateau itself next time and pay the extra if we were staying longer.

Having booked prior to reading reviews was worried. We stayed in the rooms in the small wooded area away from the Chateau. Although somewhat dated in appearance the room was clean and comfortable; we only wanted to sleep in it, not live in it. The staff were friendly and helpful. Although surrounded by council properties we did not feel threatened when walking back to the Chateau late in the evening. All in all excellent value for money and we would use it again

The good news is that the hotel has lovely public rooms; it is a grand chateau. The breakfast was also very good. However, the bad news very much outweighs the good news. The room that we stayed in, Room 6 in the chateau, did not live up to the rest of the hotel. It was very small and stuck up in the eaves of the hotel. It looked like it had not been refurbished in a very long time. The bed was very small and uncomfortable. We had the misfortune of staying on a Saturday night when there was a wedding on in the chateau; each wedding guest that left hooted their car horns and generally made a ruckus To compound that, it was so hot that the windows needed to be kept open. Between the noisy wedding guests, the heat and the uncomfortable room, we did not sleep at all that night. We will not be going back, and definately do not recommend this hotel.
