"Having read the Trip Advisor reviews prior to leaving for the Colonna Park 2 weeks ago, we flew to Sardinia with a sense of apprehension about what could possibly lie ahead! We were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is not what I would call luxurious but the rooms are very nice, clean and each has..."

Not worth the money unless you like to be very close to the Marina

Two of us stayed at the hotel for a week at the end of May. It was definitely off-peak season for Porto Cervo but the hotel is quite busy because of many package holidays organized by German travel agencies for Mid-Aged couples. The staff were helpful and friendly. There is a good size swimming pool, but we were always out and about hence never used the pool. The rooms are generally very noisy. You can hear sound like power shower everytime when your neighbours turn on the taps. Additional to that you can hear everything when ppl walk in the corridor. Must be the way the hotel was built I think. We moved once and was hoping that it would resolve the noise issue, but learned to adopt at the end. The breakfast was average. You will have to pay for fried/poached egg (unlike other 4 stars hotels!). If you decide to rent a car, there is plenty of space outside for parking. However, not sure abt Jun/Jul/Aug and how busy it could get. Location wise, its a 5 mins walk to the marina and shops. There are car rental/internet cafe, two restaurant and a bar nearby. If you want to go out and have a wild night, don't think this is the best place for it in May. It was very quiet. The rooms were cleaned everyday, if you forget to put 'do not disturb' sign on ur door, expect someone to knock on ur door as early as 7:30! If you need to use internet cafe, make sure you bring your passport or some Id with you cos the internet cafe around the corder from the hotel has proper printed out procedures and it is quite expensive. Finding an internet cafe was very tough in Porto Cervo.

Rooms need some help

Hotel had a great location and very good grounds and pool. However they could do with some serious investment in the rooms, a reburbishment is way overdue. Our room had very poor lighting and the air-conditioner failed to work most of the time. Also the shower would barely drip in the morning, however worked reasonable in the afternoon. The television must have been a century old and has no sattelite or English channels. The staff were polite and useful, recommending good beaches and places to eat. This place has a lot of potential, but with the lack of investment keeping the rooms up to specification it will be a very dissapointing stay.

We stayed for 9 days at the end of July and thought the hotel was great overall. Few problems: the water stopped on one or two days during the whole day (couldn't use toilet/shower) - we were told by reception that it often happens when it's really hot as the water supply to the area runs out. Further down the road, people were watering their gardens and washing boats ... The hotel doesn't have no-smoking rooms either, a surprise since we had been able to request one on expedia. We were shown to what was clearly a room that had just had smokers in it and were told it's non-smoking because we wouldn't be smoking (!). Staff were happy to move us to another room though that was much better. It has a great pool and nice cafe/bar available during the day. Breakfast is OK in the morning - nice little cafe in Porto Cervo (walk down the stairs from the supermarket) as a treat otherwise. In the evening, you can walk down to the marina or round the marina path to Porto Cervo - about a 20 min walk. Restaurants in PC are very expensive (compared to the UK they're extremely expensive for what you get). If you're going in peak season, try to choose and book the night before. You can also drive/taxi to Baia Sardinia - about 10 mins away - for more choices for dinner. Great sun-set views from there. Would recommend the Clipper restaurant about 2 mins walk from the Colonna, simple but good pizza/pasta and helpful staff. In the marina, the first italian restaurant you come to when walking down (mama italia?) was also fantastic - service and food. Go snorkelling too - you'll see fish and octopus if you're by rocks - we did all the time. Hope you enjoy, we thought Porto Cervo was definitely the most beautiful part of the island.
