I have traveled for 30 years, and been to over 100 countries. The Eldorado is one of the finest hotels where I stay. The surroundings and physical facility are clean and well taken care of. It is NOT the Bellagio. BUT the PEOPLE here are so great, that it gets a 5 star from me. Everyone is kind, with a smile, and helpful, and the customer is the king. STAY HERE. This summer you can get a basis room for 39.95, and upgrade to a suite for an additional 30 per night. Do it, as the suites are very nice.

Upon check-in, the young man at the desk wasn't rude, but he wasn't friendly or welcoming either. He didn't crack a hint of a smile while I was checking in but he did engage in animated conversation with his co-worker (checked in around 5:30 pm on 7/4/08). All other front desk employees were pleasant enough. The room (#341) was clean enough but the rug could use some serious cleaning as there were large, dark spots in about 4 places. Also the decor appears to be dated. About 3 sets of our towels had what appeared to be old blood stains on them and it took 3 calls (over a period of 2-3 hours) to housekeeping to have them replaced. Not a pleasant thing to deal with when you are ready to take a shower at 10:30 at night and you're waiting for clean towels. Watch out, when you are in the bathroom, you can hear everything (and I mean everything) in the bathroom in the next room. One more thing, I'm not sure how often this happens but we found a beetle type of bug crawling on our bed the 2nd night. On the positive side, the air conditioning worked really well, the tv reception was good, the ice machine was really close, and we couldn't smell cigarette smoke in our room.

Had to stay here overnight when the highway to Mammoth Lakes was shut down due to a snow storm. The staff were courteous, and the room was clean and comfortable enough. But this is a dated hotel. The hotel is a little depressing.
The only problem I encountered inside the hotel was that the crab leg I took at the hotel's buffet restaurant was a little blue inside!

Really excellent value for a Hotel Casino in Reno. Staff was very accomodating, and there were a lot of reasonably priced food options on site. Although it could use a little updating in the rooms, it's a really good option all things considered. I got a room & breakfast & Dinner for less than I (over)paid at the Reno Hampton for just the room. Casino was very lucky for me too!

We stayed at the Eldorado 4/28-4/30, and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised. Having been to Reno several times over the years, I have gambled and dined at the Eldorado before but had never stayed there. I have always stayed at the Reno Hilton/Grand Sierra, and have always been pleased. I must say, however, I think the Eldorado has won me over permanently.
We were treated with the utmost respect and courtesy from start to finish. The front desk staff, the bar staff in Brew Brothers (try the Redhead Amber Ale), the dealers, everyone. I have to give special mention to Jany, the casino host. She went above and beyond for us during our visit, and made us feel like the Eldorado was truly happy to have us as guests.
Most of the casinos in Nevada are corporate-owned and have a very impersonal feel to them unless you are a high roller, but the Eldorado feels like the family-run establishment it is (it's owned by the Carano family of Ferrari-Carano Winery, one of the most beautiful wineries in the Dry Creek Valley, but I'll save that for another review).
As for our room, it was a typical king room, clean, comfortable, plenty of room, nothing overly fancy, but certainly comparable to the standard rooms I've stayed in at the Grand Sierra, Atlantis, and Silver Legacy.
I can't say enough about the people...they were truly what made our short visit so pleasant. We will definitely be back in the next couple months.
