"We had a simply fabulous experience during a recent, sadly brief, overnight at the Cotswold House. We stayed in one of the newer rooms in the Montrose wing of the hotel, a junior suite (room #11). It was utterly beautiful. We dined in the back restaurant for dinner and breakfast, and enjoyed sumptuous..."

My partner & I always agree, never mix business & pleasure. However, having dined at The Cotswold House last Christmas with work collegues, I suggested we have our monthly decedent away weekend here -- we were not dissapointed!! Our room was in the main house & faultless. Tea on arrival, served in the lounge was glorious -- homemade nibbles a delight. Dinner, after a wander around Chipping Campden, was wonderful in the recently refurbished ( I believe ) dining room. We broke all our rules & returned for Sunday Lunch. Albeit slightly chaotic, (reception had forgotten to book our table) the lunch was splendid & extremely good value.

We had an enjoyable weekend away at the Cotswold House Hotel in early June. Room was well furnished in a contemporary style with complementary water and fresh milk - so much better than plastic pots. Bathrooms also nicely decorated in with plenty of hot water and pressure. So, what was wrong? Not much to be honest, but for close to ?250 per night a bit more obvious hospitality would have been nice and the place is perhaps a little soulless. We didn't try the Juliana restaurant, but Hick's Brasserie did decent standard fare on a late arrival from London on a Friday night. Would recommend the restaurant at the Kings Hotel next door which offered good food at very reasonable prices with friendly, attentive service. Note - if you book through Mr and Mrs Smith you are entitled to a complementary 1/2 bottle of champagne.

A group of us stayed for an anniversary dinner and weekend. The village itself is lovely and the hotel is well located on the High Street but parking is a rather strangulated affair. The hotel room/s were excellent with very comfortable beds and excellent bathrooms. The service was efficient and friendly. I did not pay for the anniversary dinner so I cannot comment on food prices. I did however pay for my room and I thought this somewhat overpriced for what it was at ?280 for a double. The whole place was without doubt a cut above the average but I think with a bit of research you can get the equivalent at a cheaper price in the area.

The hotel had a lovely garden and an excellent breakfast. We stayed there for a week in our TINY room. Though the weather was perfectly cool the whole time (highs in the 60s), our room was swealtering. During our last breakfast, we overheard three other couples complaining about the same conditions in their rooms, so that makes at least 4 unbearable rooms. There was a fan in our room. After 5 to 15 minutes, it would run full wind-tunnel blast, no matter what the setting. This was useful because the sound helped to mute the bands and celebrating/festival going on on the street for several nights. When we checked out and were asked how our time was, I said we had a nice time, but did mention that it would have been nice to be told in advance of the festival. The entire response: Christa (the woman who took our reservation) doesn't work here anymore. Never mind that I confirmed our reservations long ago with the current staff. Since the garden was so nice, there were several weddings going on during our stay. We wanted to relax out in the garden several times after a day of hiking, but it was blocked off for weddings. Don't expect help from the staff regarding hikes unless you only want to walk directly in Chipping Campden. Otherwise, they don't know about walks a couple miles away. And a really strange thing was that the tourist office knew the same amount as well. Positives, the staff helped us get taxis and were generally kind. The public bathrooms with the neat lighting and 'Friends' playing. I would not stay in this hotel again--too hot, too small, to expensive for what is offered, and as the guidebooks said, the people in the area are quirky...and for the most part they are, but not in a good way.
