Although an older hotel the kindness and friendliness of the staff made up for any flaws. Our room was very nice - more than adequate for our stay. The only down side was lack of shampoo bottle which I've come to depend on when we travel since the new restrictions on liquids when you fly.
We experienced some true Southern hospitality. The only negative was it was hard to find because of the way Lynchburg is layed out and the food in the restaurant, for breakfast, wasn't that great.
However, all in all, a very nice 3-day stay!

In January of 2008, I got this hotel by going to Hotwire and thought it was a 3 -star. From the moment, I checked in, I absolutely hated it. The Musty smell in the lobby and hallways about turned me away and THEN, the rooms itself were not clean, the beds were small, the bathroom was even smaller and the shower water did not go out but is backed up. I ended up riding around Lynchburg late in the night since I didn't want to even be in the room..."it was THAT BAD"!
Next morning, we leave our room and see a gentleman asleep in the hallway on the couch in front of the elevator. Only thing positive was the parking space which should've been a red flag...good hotels are almost always full or near full. Did I mention the filthy looking pool area?
The owners of this Hotel should shut down for year, replace all the furniture, carpet, etc. EVERYTHING NEEDS REPLACING if the musty smell is to go away. This hotel is just DIRTY and old!
I would not recommend this transient MOTEL to anyone!

My stay at the Kirkley was very enjoyable. Everyone was very pleasant always had a smile and were very courteous. I have to say that the first room that we were assigned to was on the first floor, as soon as you got off the elevator you could smell the cigarette smoke and our room smelled the same. I smoke but my house doesn't smell as bad as this floor does. We went back to the front desk and told them about this and they were only too happy to change our room. When we got to the new room it was perfect. It was clean and pleasent. The room number was 218. The only draw back was the restaurant. We went for dinner and I ordered Shrimp Scampi and I was very disappointed because what I was served was a plate of plain spagetti with 3 shrimp on top and parsley around the rim of the plate. I would stay at the Kirkley again because of the staff and the cleaniness of the hotel.
Thank You

“Stayed at the Kirkley Hotel last week when visiting Liberty University and I don’t agree with some of the negative comments. We had a good stay, the hotel was clean, the staff was friendly and our room was a good value at the $94 we paid. We enjoyed the pool and had a great breakfast in a real restaurant (not one of those low end buffets like Holiday Inn or Marriott). No, it’s not new, but it was a good hotel and I recommend it. “

If I didn't pay just $45 a night for this hotel through Priceline, I would probably would be more upset. The outside of the hotel could definitely use a facelift, but the inside lobby area is very pretty. Our room, however, (room 415) had wallpaper peeling/bubbling up in several spots and the shower drain was so clogged I showered standing in SIX INCHES OF WATER, and there was a long, black hair sitting on our nightstand when we arrived.
My wife was particularly annoyed that the DRAPES DON'T PULL SHUT (just isn't possible...the bar doesn't extend all the way accross) so if you plan on changing in your room at night with the lights on, you're going to be showing anyone in the parking lot what you've got. To their "credit" there is a gauze-type of material that does cover the whole window, but, HELLO, it's completely see-through and wouldn't do anything to keep prying eyes from looking in. We had to scrounge up a hair tie and manufacture something to hold the drapes together so that we could at least have SOME privacy. Oh, and the couple next door was drunk, yelling a lot, and getting freaky in the middle of the night and we could hear every word, moan, and groan of it all...including the headboard smashing into the wall.
Would not recommend this hotel for anything other than a one-night's stay and even then, only if you got the $45/night rate through Priceline.
