This was a great hotel. Service was very friendly and helpful. the rooms were large and very cleam with good facilities - high speed internet access, great shower. They don't have an iron or ironing board in the room but you can get on request. No English tv stations. breakfast was very enjoyable and the bar small but again very friendly.
There is a pool but it is in an adjoinging building and can only be accessed at certain times. There is also a sauna. There are lots of good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel although we took a taxi. Would recommend raum.eins - nice atmosphere and great food.
i would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Mecure Plaza Essen for 2 Days. The Hotel is very modern, really nice decor and the room we stayed at was very spacious, firm bed, fluffy pillows -- super cozy and comfy. Great place for business and pleasure trips. The room was super clean, amenities were excellent, from mini bar, office desk, small sitting space and highly functional bathroom and a good size tub. The staff is very friendly and professional -- a service with a smile. The Hotel is centrally located, easy access to underground transport and a 10 minutes walk to nearby restaurants. City center is about 10 minutes by underground train. Will definitely stay at this Hotel again whenever in Essen.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in February, and the hotel was good. Nice European styling that is good sized by European standards, a little small by US.
As the previous reviewer said, the room had all the standard business hotel amenities - bed, TV, desk, mini-bar, two chairs. It has an efficient use of space.
Only two complaints from the business hotel standpoint were that the light at the desk is a little lacking, and the TV was German only, with the exception of "EuroSport." The desk was an extension of a wall unit "thing" with the mini-bar built in, and there were a couple of halogen lights built into this unit, but none above the desk proper. Without realizing it at the time, I was given a smoking room, but there was no noticeable smell, and I'm fairly sensitive to this.
My room faced Bismarckstraße and from the 4th floor (5th floor in US) the street noise is noticeable, but not bad. Someone else who has stayed here in the past mentioned a problem with the bells ringing at the church next door, but I haven't heard a ding.
Breakfast only was offered - no lunch or dinner - but it's better than the average business hotel breakfast, with decent scrambled eggs and crispy bacon, among others. The bar was open at night and apparently serves pizza and sandwiches, but I didn't try them.
The hotel appeared to be fairly "green." In addition to the standard towels on rack if you can use them again, the windows are double pane (standard in cold weather Europe) and the lights in the hall are on a motion sensor - most of them turn off when not in use. I was constantly surprised when I'd enter the hall and the lights would turn on!
The rate that I got was more than the previous reviewers, but I did stay during the week, and my rate was presumably a special rate for a nearby employer - €96.
All-in-all, a hotel I can recommend.
