We stayed in the self-catering apartments linked to the Clarion Hotel. Whilst the hotel itself (a former mental hospital) is a bit soulless, the apartments are really good value. They are effectively 4* hotel rooms with a separate living room/kitchenette and ideal for families or groups of friends. The bar area in the hotel could be improved - it was a bit rough around the edges and very dull.

Stayed at Clarion apartments for a hen party. After check in it was difficult to find the apartments from the actual Hotel but solved it & was delighted with rooms etc. Some room have double & single bed so extremely spacious, modern with nice kitchen/living area. Would stay there again & was specially ideal for a hen party or a group of people/family.

Arrived for a 3 night midweek stay in the Clarion Hotel in Sligo. It was hard enough to find but we were greeted with a lovely stone building. The receptionist was efficient & directed us to our room, which was on the ground floor but were told to go to the 1st floor in 1 lift & then take a different lift back down to the ground floor – the easier route was to just walk through the restaurant, which we did for the remainder of our stay. Our first nights meal was included in our package so we booked into the Sinergie restaurant, which was very nice. This is also where the buffet breakfast was each morning. For breakfast there was a huge selection & it was very tasty & the staff were excellent. The next night we had a meal at the Kudos (Thai/Asian) bar, which is just off the bar. Again this was really lovely & the food is prepared in front of you.
The room & bathroom was extremely clean & comfortable. There were lovely toiletries in the bathroom & tea & coffee making facilities. My only complaint was that there were no bathrobes & no biscuits with the tea, which after a long journey would have been nice. Also the room was unbearably hot at night but we asked for a fan & then there was no problem.
The pool was very nice & there was a well equipt gym. We used the spa & had a very enjoyable time there. It’s not as luxurious as other 4* hotels but I would really recommend it.
If I was to change anything about the Clarion Hotel in Sligo I would add a major splash of colour. With the exterior being stone & a cold, the interior could do with some warmth & colour.

Firstly to find the hotel was quite difficult as the signposts for the hotel pointed in all directions from the town centre, after 2 phone calls to the hotel we finally arrived. I had booked the one bedroom apartment style accomodation as we were travelling with my 3 month old baby and thought it would have the added advantage of a quiet area as the bedroom and living area are seperate. The apartment block was situated adjacent to the main hotel which reminded us of a student halls of residence. The apartment itself was as described and perfectly adequate, however what we did not antcipate was the huge number of hen and stag parties poor in on the friday and saturday nights. This led to noisy door banging and knocking on our door in the early hours of the morning causing us to awaken to drunken stags and hens and not the baby! The connecting corridor from the apartments to the main hotel to use the leisure facilities also was badly signposted with a route in going through fire doors and the dining room. Very much like student accomodation. We had friends staying in the main part of the hotel which on all accounts was much better. Overall we found our stay adequate it could have been much better.

Arrived at the hotel on the Friday, nice friendly service greeted us. Hotel was clean. Food was good. Overall experience very favourable. Would definitely be going back if we need to stay in Sligo again.
Couldnt really fault the hotel. Ok the car park was a bit packed as there were weddings there all weekend. The room was warm, comfortable and clean - couldnt really ask for more. We had dinner the second night, well impressed with the steak.
Would not really suit those who have no car as the hotel is bout 8 minute drive to the town centre, a good walk in other words. Taxi from the town centre to the hotel was 9 euro. Drinks at the bar were priced ok, bout 4.50 a pint - usual hotel price in Ireland at this time.
All in all thumbs up.
