Although the hotel doesn't look like much from the outside, the rooms have been recently refurbished and are extremely comfortable. We found the sea-side avenue on which it's located to be a bit noisy (a new hotel is being built next door). However, thanks to what appeared to be double-glazing (a rare treat in Portugal), we found the room to be very quiet at all times. If you do chose to stay at this hotel, get a room with a sea-view. You'll find youself admiring the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and, as mentioned on a previous review, the views across the very wide beach are just brilliant.

Hotel Mecure let down by appalling housekeeping

My partner and I booked two nights at the Mercure Figueira da Foz as a relaxing break between a hectic 5 days in both Lisbon and Porto. We were very pleased with the location of the hotel, and happy to pay extra for a room with an ocean view, which was spectacular. We were happy with most aspects of our stay, but unfortunately what tarnished our view of this hotel was the appalling standard of housekeeping, the likes of which I have never experienced. Reception informed us that housekeeping took 1 hour on each room to clean it, however I would guess no more than 5 minutes was spent on our room on the second day of our stay. Our bed looked as though it had been made by a 3 year old child, this is not an exaggeration. Half was unmade and the duvet all crumpled. Apart from that the towels were changed, and nothing more. This is unacceptable, and reception not helpful when we complained.
