This hotel is dull and tired and could do with major refurbishment. We stayed here between 26th-30th June 2008. Our room was dull, sparse and naked. Everywhere could do with a good bucket of soapy water and a sponge, the walls in parts were dirty. The pictures on the net are very bright, I found this hotel very dark indeed. Although, it met our needs, the air con and t.v worked and there was a ready supply of hot water in the shower. The staff were friendly and professional and the restaurants were unremarkable.
The breakfast area again, looked worn and tired, very 70’s looking in parts. The choice available was barely okay but I didn’t like the idea of the yoghurt being served from a big trough rather than small pots.
The snack area around the poolside looked desolate and did not tempt me to order anything and the cake served with tea in the French restaurant was dry as the Sahara.
It wasn’t the Ritz but after a luxurious cruise on the Nile and an equally luxurious hotel in Cairo, the Mercure Inn was a real come down. I later found out that those guests staying for a week or two got larger sized rooms overlooking the pool area but those staying there for a few nights, as we were got basic rooms in the main building. It seems that the larger sized rooms are slightly better in d?cor etc.
I loved Egypt and currently thinking of doing the same trip next year but I would probably opt to go to a different hotel in Luxor. This one wasn’t cutting it for me.

welll. . . i have been to many destinations over the years but this is the best! i have stayed at the mecure etap hotel in luxor 3 times now and i love it more every time i go back there, the staff are wonderful they are so friendly and make an effort to remember your name and nothing you ask is too much for them. all the times i have stayed at this hotel i have had a nile view which come 8pm you can watch the sunsetting from your balcony its soo beautiful. if you are to stay here make sure you venture from the hotel if you turn right from the exit of the hotel then take the next right come 5-6 pm theres a good market selling local produce sooo cheap you can pick up some really nice stuff from there.and there are also a few little cafes and restuarants which are really resonibly priced.
fellahs tent is a really good evening out, an egyptian themed evening you hop on a felluca ( little boat ) and sail up the nile which takes you to the movenpick hotel where the evening is set i think its about ?25 but its well worth it. theres camel rides, henna hand painting, snake charming, and open buffet all night all drinks included alchol and soft drinks, belly dancers and authentic egyptian entertainment.
and if you looking for gifts definatly go to yorkshire bob the jewelers he has beautiful jewelry! jump on a horse and carriage outside the hotel and it should roughly cost you 20-30 ep which is ?2-?3. anyways i could go on forever because i loved this holiday and im sure you will aswell! hope this review has helped xx

Went to Egypt for first time and decided on Luxor. To be honest we booked the Mercure because of the price and what a great choice we made. The hotel was clean and tidy and offered various different places to eat - although a little pricy compared with other places to eat. The staff were great and we had pool vollyball aranged every day, which was great to play and to watch. The rooms were a little tired but clean and that to me is more important. The male maid came in everyday. The waiting staff at breakfast time were great as I only drink hot chocolate which was not part of the menu - everyday I sat down my hot chocolate was brought to me. The breakfast was the same everyday which became a bit monotinous. But it was fine really. The pool area was lovely. We spent most of our time there. There is a toilet block which is great and even has showers there. There are several shops and a hairdressers inside the hotel along with a massage parlour in the toilet block.
We took our two children (aged 13 and 10 - with fair to red hair) and I would definately not recommend this to others. They loved Egypt but it was far too hot for them (48 plus degrees). We struggled when visiting various places but they really struggled. When we visited the valley of the kings we had to keep pouring water over my daughters head to stop her collapsing.
We loved the heat!!
We sat through the reps talk the morning after we arrived and then went promptly to the other end of town to a place called Cheops which is joined to the grounds of the Winter Palace. There a chap gave is some excellent prices. The rep quoted ?90 each for a balloon trip and we paid ?23 each with Cheops (half price for children). The trip was definately not to be missed.
Mummification Museum - small but great
Fellahs Tent - Good night at a great Resort but watch the mosquitos - we were literally bit to pieces.
Valley of the Kings - Breathtaking but red hot
Banana Island - Literally an Island full of banana trees but nothing else.
Camel Ride - organized by Cheops who took us over to the West Bank, Sat us on 4 huge! camels and we were then led for an hour walking round the streets round peoples houses. This was great and well worth the ?5 each. I was literally terrified but the people who led us around were really great.
Luxor Temple - a lot bigger inside than it looked from the outside.
Sound and Light show at Karnak Temple - great but unfortunately went on too long. The kids fell asleep and we were also getting restless.
Sunshine Orphanage - we were told about this place by our rep. We took pens, english chocolate and various other items along with us. We were shown around the place and we walked out realising that although the children had no family for whatever reason they were well looked after and all seemed really happy.
There were many other places we would have loved to have gone to but it was much to hot to take the children out for too long. They were happy doing nothing but playing in the pool for half of the holiday.
ENJOY !!!!!!!!

I have just returned from a 2 week holiday in Luxor staying at the Mercure Hotel, which is right in the heart of Luxor overlooking the Nile which my room overlooked at no extra charge. I have stayed at this hotel before 6years ago and since then I have read a few negative reviews, but I have to say that I do not have anything bad to say about the Mercure, in fact exactly the opposite. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean, the staff very, very friendly, they can 't do enough for you. There are a few different restaurants to chose from with a good selection of foods, again all lovely and clean. Live music at night, and a disco.
Every room has air conditioning which is free, also free safety deposit boxes in reception. It even has shops which you can look round hassle free.
Now for a bit about Luxor, it is all kept clean, but beware as soon as you walk out of the hotel grounds you are shouted at from every direction, the best advice I can give is just shake your head at them and try not to let it bother you. There are quite a few things you can do by yourself, such as The Luxor Museum it's only a few minutes walk from the hotel, turn right as you leave, in the other direction is Luxor Temple I would suggest going there early as it gets very hot.
There is loads to see and do, just try not to let the hassle bother you and enjoy the holiday and the hotel. We did.
Hope this review helps.
