A good location for visiting both the Rhine and Mosel Valleys

I picked this location over a more charming Rhine town because we were only in the area for two days and wished to visit both the Rhine and Mosel valleys in those two days. It is only a 5 minute walk to the Koblenz train station and from there, every place we wanted to visit on the two rivers were within a 30 minute local train ride. It worked out quite well for us. The reason it did not get an "excellent" from me, is that the breakfast option that they offer is just way too expensive, so we had to do it on our own. It does lack the charm of a smaller hotel in one of the quaint river towns, but it is under 100 Euros a night and is clean, comfortable and quiet.

I needed a city hotel with a garage and after some searching I discovered this hotel with parking in a garage beneath the hotel. It is situated close to the train station and the center of the city.
Being a large hotel it isn't exactly cozy, but the room and breakfast area was nice and I needed the parking space.
Parking was an extra 5 Euro and the room was 74.50 Euro.
I wouldn't mind staying here agin.

Located across from an incredible comic book/toy shop (where else can you find Christmas Darth Vadar?), 10 minutes from the train station (on the same street), a 10 minute walk further up the road to the old town, and a 15 minute walk to ferries, the location could not be better for the price. The area the hotel is located in itself is quite average for a medium-sized city, and there are not many dining/entertainment options, but it is within a 10 minute walk of the Old Town (Aldstadt) which has unlimited opportunities.
We used this as a base to explore the north end of the Middle Rhine Valley or two days, and then stayed at the NH Bingen to explore the south end for a few days. Koblenz itself was one of our favourite places (along with Bacharach and Rudesheim) during our trip.
We found the staff friendly and helpful, and the rooms comfortable and quiet.

Gutes modernes Ibis

Good Modern Ibis

Modern, well furbished Ibis on a corner site about 10-15 minutes walk to the old town centre--about 25 minutes stroll to the Rhine. Covenient, with underground parking. Overnight stop rather than a holiday, as Koblenz does not have too much to offer except river trips. Better to stay at smaller towns down the Rhine or Moselle valleys which are far more attractive.
Friendly, efficient reception with decent Ibis breakfast included in room rates. Quietly situated on a side street. The air conditioning worked well on a stiflingly hot summer's day.
