I was booked into this hotel when I was attending a conference, and I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly suprised - the hotel is really close to the train station, and perfect for both business and leisure travel. It was close to a lot of restaurants and bars for evening dining, and very convenient. The staff were friendly, and spoke great english (which was useful, as my spoken german was far worse than I thought it was from practice at home). Breakfast is a buffet style with cereal, cheese, breads, fruit, etc. The bar is expensive but I dined and drank out on an evening instead of at the hotel. The room was acceptably sized, and very clean. My only complaint is that there was no kettle in the room and the TV was very small. If you simply want a clean room, good access to transport, and a decent breakfast, then I'd say the Ibis is great.

This is not a luxury experience, but it is a good deal. The Ibis has a terrific location, a block from the railway station and within walking distance of the Markt, with lots of restaurants. It's 59 euros whether you get it through a website or just turn up, as far as I can see. The rooms are small but clean and well-maintained. Undercover parking (important in the winter - it gets cold here!) is only 8.50 euros, and all the desk staff spoke excellent English. We skipped the breakfast and went to Cafe Stein in Markt for their buffet - great value at about 8 euros each - this was a Saturday, so perhaps it is only a weekend thing. Leipzig is a really interesting city - the "Runden Ecke" Stasi Museum is located in the actual Stasi headquarters and contains fascinating displays. The East Germany museum is well worth a visit as well. Good restaurants, bars, shopping - we had only a day and a night but wish we'd stayed longer.
