On our way down to the south of France we stopped over in Reims for the night. Having found it difficult to find a decent hotel in Reims on the internet, we plumped for something basic but well located. On arrival I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel was very modern and we found the hotel staff to be extremely helpful. The rooms were basic, but in a minimal/trendy way, with LCD TV and a modular shower room. The bed was incredibly comfortable and on close inspection, the room was very clean! It took just over 10 minutes to walk to the shops/restaurants and was well worth the short walk. The centre of Reims was lovely and very cosmopolitan. I would highly recommend this hotel for a short stop over, but not for a holiday.

I've stayed at other Ibis hotels, and I find this chain generally a decent (although not great) value. I cannot recommend this particular hotel, however. It's undergoing renovations, and you only get informed about it when you head to your room. Some very noisy work is done at night (!) just outside the hotel. The two guys at the reception desk could not be less helpfull, they try to nickel and dime you on everything. E.g., one told me all restaurants were closed in the city, and so I had dinner at the hotel. The quality was awful, they don't know how to cook at all. Then I went outside to find dosens of open restaurants just a 100 steps away. Vending machine was broken (on purpose?), so they tried to sell me a small bottle of water for 3.60 euro. This time I told them "over my dead body", and found a 24 hour open automated vending store just outside the hotel. The location is very good, but there are some other hotels in the immediate area, and they are cheaper. Of course I don't know if they are any better, but I would rather try them next time around.

Good location, decent hotel... but nothing special!

You know what to expect from an Ibis if you've stayed in one before, and this one is no different. Simple, basic rooms - small in size - with a phone, TV, little bathroom with shower. The room was a little tired, and we were put in a smoking room to start with, but all was easily fixed. The location of this hotel is perfect though - less than a 5 minute walk to all of the cafes/restaurants and shopping. It is also right at the train station - not a problem unless you like to sleep with the windows open! Then you'll be listening to the station announcements at all hours. I'd recommend this hotel if you are looking for a cheap but decent place to stay, in a good location... but i'd suggest looking elsewhere if you're looking for a few niceties.
