The Ibis Luton Airport hotel is the dirtiest most revolting hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. This was not just a case of the room not having been cleaned properly that night , but months if not longer of grime and lack of cleanliness that resulted in a very unpleasant stay.
The carpet had never been cleaned to the edges and was so grubby that I never dared put my bare feet on it. The room smelt of cooking fat and the bed clothes and towels smelt musty (I am not convinced that they were clean). As a result I slept on top of the bed on my own bathrobe!
The walls in the hotel are paper thin and I could hear every word said in the next room which had a closed adjoining door. I had an early business flight and felt dreadful after a disturbed night in a foul hotel.
I will never stay in an Ibis again and it was definitely not worth ?74 – I would have had a better night sleep pitching a tent at the end of the runway!

I stay in hotels across the UK and Europe 3 - 4 nights a week and have been doing this for over 8 years.
IBIS Luton Airport probably represents the worst value and dirtiest hotel I have had the displeasure to stay in.
Bathrooms (we had two rooms) had not been cleaned for some time. There was build up of grime below the water line in the toilets which could only be described as disgusting. Stains and mould around the base of the toilet unit and around the bath suggested there had not been a thorough cleaning of the area completed in several months. The skiting boards had a thick layer of dust lying on them and the carpets and curtains had not been cleaned in a considerbale time. Combine all this with Pillow cases fitted inside out and stained bedcovers and you have it all. Staff were also unhelpful and the effort to provide an evening 'meal' was very very poor.
At ?75 per room excl breakfast I can say with great authority - THE WORST DEAL IN BRITAIN.

This place is dire. I have stayed in quite a few hotels now and this place is just horrible, especially considering the holiday inn express is basically next door, similar price and a million times better!! (will also post a review of holiday inn)
On arrival you are greeted with the stench of petrol fumes - I haven't stayed in an airport hotel before so don't know if this is the norm?
There is limited parking but I got a space no problems.
The first room I was shown to was horrible really (pre-refurb) it looked like something out of a crap film shot in a dodgy American motel. All dusky pink & mint green and really shabby. There was building work going on in the hotel and was extremely noisy. Considering this is an airport hotel i.e. people sleeping an odd hours and the fact that the building work was not mentioned at the time of booking I found this to be unacceptable. (Please note as well because it is an airport hotel there were people coming and going at all hours, therefore could hear doors slamming).
I have never, ever refused a room in a hotel until I came to this one - settled on the 3rd one. This one had been refurbished, the room itself was acceptable. The bathroom an absolute waste of money. You went up a step to go into it and it was basically a room made of plastic. (and dirty). Because the room was off the floor when you were in the shower (which had a curved bottom so you were sliding around) you were bouncing around.
The rooms were quite cramped.
The breakfasts were vile and I was ill after eating there. Ever put sliced sandwich chicken in the fridge without covering it up and it goes hard? Imagine that warm with stale bread.
The food in the evening was quite good for a budget hotel, though everything on the menu was precooked stuff which happens a lot these days.
The noise of the planes was deafening and I was at the back of the hotel.
If I had to I would go back again, and if I could get the room for ?20 I'd think bargain, but to be honest for the price and the price of the holiday inn express I'd go there.
Both are very easy to find from the M1 (a couple of miles of dual carriageway, though lots of roadworks and it looks like they're building a new road so beware any route planners/sat navs - just follow the signs for the airport and follow where the planes are coming from and you won't go far wrong). There's a shell garage approx a mile away where petrol is a lot cheaper than the motorway also.

My husband and I arrived in Luton after flying down from Edinburgh and stayed at the IBIS before our flight out to Florence the following day. We could see the Holiday Inn from the runway and as the IBIS hotel is situated right next to it, it is located conveniently close to the airport.
We were advised to jump on one of the purple airport/train buses which run every 15mins and we were to ring the bell once we were in the underpass so as to get off at the first stop out of the underpass (opposite the Holiday Inn). We didn’t have to pay anything and we used this bus the following morning returning to the airport for our flight to Florence, waiting for the bus at the bus stop next to the Holiday Inn.
Getting off the bus at the Holiday Inn the IBIS is just on the other side of the road. You could easily walk from the airport terminal but seeing as we had heavy luggage we were pleased to jump on the bus for the short journey.
The hotel itself was functional and typical of a chain hotel near an airport, ok for a night before or just after a flight, but nothing more. The toilet "pod" was simply odd and had a less than pleasant odour! There was a lack of pillows in the room, but reception were happy to sort this out. Worried that there was a sign saying you could book rooms by the hour - can't imagine why! lol

A 10 min walk from the airport, but not a pleasant walk with a suitcase (quite steep hill, alongside a very busy road). There is a carpark shuttle if you can find it at the airport busloop though (drops off/picks up outside the nearby Holiday Inn).
Nevertheless, clean modern decent-value room provided a good place to spend a night before a flight.
Would definitely recommend.
