This hotel is in a good location in the old port. It is a five minute walk from the area of the old port where most of the restaurants are. The room was clean but basic ie no tea/coffee making facilities, the walls of the room were white and pebbledashed style which looked a bit 1960's. The room was however very quiet being just to the side if the main tourist area. Breakfast was 7 euros per person and I did not feel offered a good selection ( Croisants ,bread, ham cheese, juice and coffee from a machine ) I would however stay at this hotel again as we only used the hotel as a base and it offered good value for money. Whilst staying in La Rochelle I would recommend spending some time on the Ile de Re. You can catch a bus from the bus station in La Rochelle and keep getting off at different locations on the Island and catching a later bus for about 13 euros per person. One place I would avoid in future is a bar in the old port called La Vague ( the wave ) We asked for a half litre carafe of wine which is usually about 9 euros at other restaurants in the old port. The waiter told us he did not have any carafes so we agreed to have a bottle. He made sure we had started drinking the bottle before bringing us the bill for 25 euros !! and it wasn't even a good bottle of wine.

Hotel bien placé à mi chemin de la gare et du port. Les chambre sont simples avec une literie plus ou moins confortable mais en général ce type d'établissement suit très bien la qualité de ces chambres. Donc nous savons très bien à quoi nous attendre dans ce type d'hebergement. Ibis propose Canalplus à ces clients. Le rapport qualité/prix est assez souvent intéressant. Les standards de propreté sont respecté. Vraiment avec cette chaine d'hôtel vous aurez toujours une petite chambre propre et simple.

We stayed at the hotel in June for 4 nights. The service a the desk was great and we were in our room in minutes. The room is basic , like a travel lodge , however everything is provided . The bathroom is of a high standard with a great shower. Breakfast is provided , however chose to get it over the road at a baker shop. The hotel is a great location with a short walk to the rail station and only minutes away from the cafe's and bars. The aquaruim in La Rochelle is worth a visit . La Rochelle has hundreds of great little shops and can spend a day just looking around. Take a boat trip out to Fort Boyard from the harbour for 16 euro's. Take a walk up to Les Minimes where there is a good beach and large amount of yachts in the harbour.

I didn't expect much of a 2 star hotel, but was surprised because the hotel is very well located, just a few steps from the busy port and near the town centre. Good parking facilities, friendly and helping staff, good breakfast for what we had paid (100euros for the three of us). I'd stay in the hotel again.

The Ibis Vieux Port is what you expect from the hotel chain. We booked it because we were arriving late by train. It's one of the closest hotels to the station and an easy 10 minutes walk. The location is good since it's close the port, etc but not right in the noisy centre.
