We used this hotel as our base to make day trips to Leptis Magna and to Sabratha: also it is walking distance from the main museums and central Tripoli. Excellent rooms and good service.
The best restaurant (the Fes) at the top of the hotel serves very good Moroccan food which tases delicious without any alcohol, which is not available in Libya. The Italian restaurant is also good althought the service can be a little Italian and slow.

Two night stay in executive suite at the start of Ramadan ($380 euro / night.)
Excellent attentive service athough like everything in Libya you might not get the exact result you wanted! If you need any assistance Tony the head honcho is the man to see.
Location is excellent, views excellent, rooms and all common areas very clean. Breakfast is your average Europeanesq buffet affair and the top floor restaurant is worth a try.
Business centre is excellent - wireless, conference rooms, full spread and again very attentive service.
The best in Tripoli from what I'm told and from my (brief) experience it would be hard to disagree.

The hotel is the only 5* in Tripoli (Although others are coming) and they use that to good effect. The hotel is very nice, the rooms are clean and well maintained and the hotel has all the facilities you would expect.
Unfortunately you have to pay through the nose for everything!
Meals aren't cheap, if you want to iron anything you are forced to use the laundry service (will take my travel iron next time), and the airport trip cost 40 euro, one way.
Don't get me wrong, if you have the money, it is a lovely place to stay, but if you need to count the pennies, maybe try one of the other places in town,.

The bab deserves to be called a 5 star hotel with every thing you would expect , rooms are good and view terrific . I stayed there twice during my trip to Libya April 2007 and was more than satisfied , however both times I checked in it took more than an hour as the staff could not find my booking luckily my guide was with me and after a phonecall and arguements the problem disappeared , so make sure you confirm your booking . Tripoli is is a beautiful city and the local people are wonderful .
