I had a pretty good experience here. The hotel is located right next to the railway station and so is very convenient. Checking in at the large lobby was quick and easy. The room, however, was very small although this was good enough for the short time I was there. A big plus was the fact that it was very well insulated from noise both in and out of the hotel. The breakfast was absolutely fabulous. By shopping around on the web, I got a big discount but, like all Oslo hotels, it was still quite expensive. Although the hotel itself is fine, it is not situated in the nicest part of town. There are druggies and beggers hanging around in the station and the end of St Johans Gase. It is also close to the immigrant sector - Groenland. The locals call it Pakiland. If this doesn't bother you, you will be able to get a cheap curry there. If you are coming by Ryanair, the bus station is a short walk from the railway station. Just follow the signs. Look for the South Exit in the railway station. When going back to the airport take care because the bus may not leave on time or from the bay indicated on the screen. Overall, I can recommend this hotel but ,if you are staying in Oslo for some time, you would do better to choose a hotel away from the station in the western half of Oslo.

Modern Hotel very good situation in front of the new Opera, near the Harbor, the train station and the main street. Quite expensive (like the Hotels in the Nordics)

The Thon Opera is a very comfortable hotel with helpful and understanding staff. The room, I was in a single, was very "pod" like and minimalist with a bed, desk and chair. The bathroom consisted of a toilet, sink and shower within a compact area. The room heating was under floor and could be controlled within the room. Although the room was small, it was adequate for the stay, you could work from the desk and the bed was very comfortable and I had a good sleep. The hotel is ideally situated right next to the station for further onward travel, if you need to travel outside of Oslo main town, and you can have a comfortable walk around the town from the hotel. There is also a good tram network that can get you about and you can purchase day and weekly tickets that allow you to travel on a number of modes of transport. The hotel is clean and minimalist and the staff were very good. The breakfast is included and provides a wide choice, which can set you up well for the day. There are two modes of transport from the airport, you can either catch the normal train that stops at stations and takes about 40 minutes to Oslo or you can get the “Flytoget” which is direct from the airport to Oslo without stopping and takes around 20 minutes. The difference being that the fast train costs about twice the price! Overall, the hotel is good value for Oslo and is in a good central point for most people, whether on business or vacation. I would stay there again, if going to Oslo.
