"I like the Thon Hotel chain because it is honest in segmenting its locations into categories and setting reasonable room rate "price points". The high end are Conference hotels, which have the most amenities and are suitable for both business travellers and tourists. The middle segment is City, which..."

We took the airport shuttle into town to one of its stops at the SAS Hotel Bryggen (pronounced Brew ghen)on the water, in the main wharf area, and then we only had to wheel our luggage about 4 blocks to our hotel. We were thrilled to find it so quickly. It was marked budget; however, we were quite pleased. After having paid $40 USD for two quarter pounder meals at McDonald's in Haugesund earllier in the day. We were happy to have booked a reasonably priced hotel. The lobby sitting area was large. Internet access was available. The room was adequate and quiet. A full breakfast was included in our price; they even had lunchmeats and bread. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We walked back into town and night to enjoy our evening.

This is a really bad hotel. Poor standards, very small rooms, not really clean, kind of smelly, and pretty old. Staff is polite and helpful, breakfast is complete but that's pretty much it. Would strongly advise to pay more (this is one of the cheapest hotel in Bergen, even though it's real pricy for what you get), to obtain better quality.

Good value for money. This hotel does not pretend to be anything but a budget hotel, and that is what you'll have to keep in mind when staying here. The room we had was on the 9th floor, with a view over the park and the mountains. The windows could be widely opened, which was nice as it was hot in Bergen during our stay. Two chairs and a little table made it possible to sit comfortably. The bed was very good, the bathroom adequate, and the breakfast was definitely not a budget-breakfast - it was very good! The minus side: The hotel has not too much staff in the breakfast-area. The first morning we were there, I counted more than 20 tables that weren't cleaned after guests having left the area. It looked really messy, and made it difficult to find a place to sit without having to move other people's dirty dishes. The next morning, the cleaning was better, but there was a lack of "everything"; spoons, napkins, cups, glasses, knives etc. However, there was no lack of things to eat, and there was a great variety of hot and cold food. All in all, a good budget hotel that doesn't pretend to be anything else.

Talk about being stuck in the 70's! This hotel is the definition of a budget hotel, absolutely no thrills, old carpet, furniture that belongs on the side of the road, and a bathroom reminiscent of summer camp. Yes, we are in Norway, but it is absolutely unbelievable that you can spend this kind of money and get this type of room. The location is great, and that is about it. Spend a little more and stay somewhere else! Lastly, paid for a triple room through expedia, received a double room (for the two of us). The staff said that they removed the third bed since there were two of us. I guess the third bed goes in the bathroom because there is no way that anything else could fit in that bedroom.
