"This is my first stay at this hotel, normally I stay at Cedar Court, they were full, so thought I would give this hotel a try. Set in a very nice area, just a few minutes drive from M1 motorway. The hotel has been fully refurbished, and of a very high standard, excellent bedrooms and they were very clean..."

We booked a stay via the laterooms website and chose an Executive Twin Bedroom. The hotel was difficult to find as our sat nav sent us in the wrong direction but a quick call to the reception and we soon found our way. We arrived around 9.20pm at night and was greeted by a very friendly and professional receptionist. There was a slight difficulty in finding our booking but we given our key for room 8. I told the receptionist I was disappointed that I had no response to my request on my booking form to email me a copy of the menu so i could book an evening meal and she agreed this was poor service by the receptionist on duty at that time. She checked my booking and confirmed I had made the request and then was embarrassed to find she was the receptionist on duty. I was more annoyed later when i found out they gave you a free bottle of wine if 2 of you dined in the restaurant! When I arrived in room 8 I was shocked to find that this room was the same room as the picture for the standard rooms so went back down and asked the receptionist to check we were given an Executive room. The receptionist was fairly new and did not seem to know whether it was or not so I asked why she booked us in that room if she knew we had booked an executive room. She then offered to go and check some rooms and find an executive room. She then disappeared off with a set of keys and continued to return and collect other keys. This saga dragged on and on and there was a lot of whispering regarding unable to find an executive room. It appears they are all the same and the picture only show different duvet covers but they have since swapped them for the same covers as the standard. after over an hour she came back and told me they could not find any different rooms and said they were all executive despite telling her colleague (via a whisper) that they shouldn't be selling something they do not have. I was told i could view several rooms myself and choose an alternative if I wanted. This again took another 15 mins and we view several rooms and decided to move to room 7 as at least it had the same covers that were on the site and I thought the bathroom was slightly larger however it turned out to be the same. This change we later regretted deeply. The room was similar to a premier lodge, however not executive in any way with lux shower gel being supplied at both sink and bath for all your needs(no soap no shampoo!!!) The bathroom was the tiniest i had ever seen and can only fit one person. We finally sat down at 11.50am and i was tired and fed up! The room was freezing so i went down to complain however there was no staff about so i went back up. That night it was so cold and we kept going into the corridor to get a warm. Eventually it became unbearable and i went down again looking for a member of staff I eventually found a very apologetic porter who offered to swap our rooms, I had explained what had happened earlier and confirmed I just wanted to have a bath and sleep as it was getting very late and requested a heater. He spent 10 mins looking for one and offered to take it to my room however i declined. Finally we had heat in the room and we were so happy. That was until i decided to run a bath, I rant the hot water and noticed when i put the plug in that it was not attached to the chain, when the water reached halfway i turned the hot water off however it would not go off and continued to pour out very hot water I was totally terrified as I thought our room was going to flood and ran to get my friend who could also not turn the tap off it just turned! and of course i could not pull the plug out as the chain was not attached to it and the water was too hot to put my hand in the bath. By this time the water was reaching the top and the bathroom was like a sauna i tried to ring reception and there was no answer I ran down stairs to get help, however my friend managed to wrap a towel around the tap and and eventually turned it to such a way it stopped, moments from flooding the room with boiling water! I found the gentleman and explained what happened- he once again apologised and and went into the kitchen and obtained a chef's spoon to pull the plug out. He was shocked how hot the room had become and I explained that i was desperate for a bath as i suffered very bad pain in my legs following a fall a couple of years ago. At this point I wanted to leave and go home but it was 1.50am in the morning and i was tired, the porter offered again to change rooms but i told him it was late and i did not want to repack but would like to be able to take a bath in the morning to which i was told if i didn't move rooms now i would have to have a shower or risk using the hot tap again! he said it wouldn't have flooded as it had an overflow and i told him the water was coming out to fast for the overflow to cope and could have scalded us.. He kindly ran cold water for me so i could at least take a bath that night. Despite being stirred with a chefs spoon normally reserved for soup i took a bath and finally got to sleep. The next day i had every intention of making a complaint about the way we had been treated and went down for breakfast however a lady came over to me and apologised for what had gone on and explained that our room was closed for repairs and we shouldn't have been given the key to it! I must admit i was impressed that i received an apology so quickly and before I even had to complain. I explained what had happened to the receptionist later and she again apologised however the friendly nature of the staff made it almost impossible to take my complaint further as i was too embarrassed especially as she had explained that her mother and brother had recently died. This was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in however its such a shame as i found the staff polite, helpful and professional at all times. I am shocked this hotel as had a refurbishment and feel it lets down a brilliant team of people.

Stayed here over a weekend in october, and had a excellent stay. Staff were helpful and freindly, hotel was clean and had just gone under a refurbishment and I was very impressed. Breakfast and meals also very good, and at a good price, will stay here again.

Stayed here when attending a friends wedding nearby. It did the job for us. Nice bar area. Unfortunately not open late when we were there. Rooms were a bit cramped and smelled very damp. But nice and quiet. Breakfast was ok. Good buffet. Standard was good for a cheaper hotel, but the dining room was very hot from the heatlamps from the buffet - this needs sorting. The girl on reception was really friendly when we checked in and helpful when our taxi didnt turn up. (Sat 18th August evening shift)

Booked out at 11.58 or so. Queried the bill because they didn't have the receipts for the bill that totalled to the Hotel Receipt. Got a new bill then because it was after 12.00pm I was then charged a late room fee of £55.00. Much to the delight of the girl behind the counter. Going to take them to the small claims court. They are denying this happened. They said they had CCTV footage of me going mental (I pointed my finger!). Food is very bland and service was generally not that good. Why was everyone miserable behind the counter. Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. I feel like a victim and not a customer!!!

We stayed here for a wedding and apparently got a reduced rate for the double room with breakfast, but it still cost £59.50 which was over priced for the 3 star that it was. The hotel is clean and well looked after although I personally think if they're going to charge that amount of money for the rooms they need to revamp the decor and bump it up to a 4 star. The room was clean and big but plaster was hanging off the wall above the bath and the furniture was very dated. The view from our particular room was a roof going upwards yet we could hear the traffic on the main road. The meal and hot buffet in the evening were served well and nice. Breakfast is a choice of cereals, cold meats, cheeses, fruits, yogurts, croissants, toast and/or a full english. Breakfast was served well in a modern separate section to the main dining room. I ordered a full english with scrambled egg but no the black pudding (yuk) and got a fried egg and no baked beans. I had to ask for the egg and beans which came more or less when I'd finished the rest of the breakfast. In the evening I ordered a double spirit and charged it to the room and its cost £5.70! The bar was open all night, served by the porter who covered reception and 24 hour room service. The staff were pleasant and friendly. Although.... the bar staff messed up with my drinks as I ordered a bottle of wine and kept it behind the bar, when I went for a top up, they'd served it to other customers. This happened on a previous visit too. Overall no major disappointments. Hotel is 15 minutes drive into Wakefield City Centre and if you hang around the next day there are great pubs close by and a wonderfull walk around Newmillerdam Lake.
