At below ? 120/night the Westin Osaka is a very good deal. Of course it doesn't meet Westin standard (not all rooms with internet access, part of bathroom with carpet, not hip styled) but you have to see the price they charge. Due to Platinum Starwood Card I get continental breakfast for free (nice setting), lounge access (lounge is okay) and reduced price for internet access. When in Osaka I always stay at Westin. So I'm happy with the deal.

American living in Tokyo. Travel frequently through Japan and try to stay at Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Starwood, etc. to accrue points. Made a mistake staying here. Not located close to city centre at all. Hotel lobby and rooms are badly in need of a makeover. Apparently hotel had some financial troubles and it shows. Executive lounge is embarrasing. Stay at the Hilton. It is located right downtown in Osaka, great location.

On the map it looked close to Umeda/JR Osaka station, but actually it is a bit of a hike. As we came in by the airport limousine to Umeda (which drops off at the New Hankyu Hotel) we were a little disoriented. But some helpful people pointed us in the direction of a path that leads to an underpass (which runs under some railroad tracks) to the Umeda Sky Building. We schlepped our stuff over there, and eventually got to the hotel, which is next door.
Unlike one recent reviewer, we actually found staff incredibly gracious and accommodating, and one staff member actually took us up to our room (not looking for any gratuity) but just wanting to explain things like the ventilation/heat in case we were confused.
The room itself was huge, especially for Japan (40 m2) - definitely the biggest for Osaka (except maybe the Dojima which is US$600 a night!). We were initially put in an unrenovated room, but when my wife said that we were unhappy with the room (which we were staying in for leisure over the Chinese New Year holiday) we were given the option of upgrading to an executive floor room using points.
I wouldn't say that the unrenovated room was bad, but it was slightly worn in that well preserved way that you also found in other Japanese hotel chains in the past like the Okura or the Imperial.
The Executive floor room was significantly nicer, large, clean and with more attractive and up-to-date furnishings. Breakfast in the Japanese restaurant was quite nice, as was the buffet downstairs. We had the continental breakfast one day in the lounge, which indeed was cold cuts and a limited selection, but there are other excellent breakfast options in the hotel if you want something really solid. And there's always tons of cafes including my favorite, Chococro, not too far away (by the ings mall) near HEP Five.
For me, the bus ran impeccably and on time. There was one bummer of a traffic light that was the main obstacle between the hotel and the JR Osaka station, but other than that it was a smooth ride (a little less of the Westin Osaka corporate video would be Ok too).
But the service was excellent, I thought the food was very good, the staff well trained and I really ended up enjoying the experience and the location (nice jogging areas in decent weather if you don't want to pay for the gym 1500 yen). They should send more on renovations but other than that I thought it was a rather pleasant stay.

Excellent hotel. Rooms are very large and clean. Only stayed one
night as a stopover, but would stay again. Bed is very comfortable, bathroom is large. And it has one of the best pastry shops I have seen.
did have difficulty ordering room service, due to the language barrier, but they did try to help out the best they could.
It is about a 10 minute walk to Osaka station. However, we took a taxi to
Shin-Osaka staion, as that is where the bullet train departs from for Tokyo. This cost about $17.00.
The hotel is not central to any night life. It it more the business area of osaka.
But a very nice hotel indeed.
