"Our stay at the Sofitel Montreal was flawless, true to it's five stars. The hotel is in the northern part of the Downtown area, busy but not crowded. The shopping streets and malls are within walking distance. Mount Royal is right behind the street of the hotel. The Biodome and the Olympic village is..."

I stayed at the Sofitel for my 30th B-day and I was not disappointed. The hotel is beautiful and modern and the customer service is beyond top notch!

Very good hotel... a few issues

I just returned from a weekend at the Sofitel and had an overall pretty good experience. I did find it to be a little bit pretentious. I stayed in a Deluxe King which I booked on Expedia during a 24 hour sale. I don't know if I would pay the regular rate of $285/night. Parking is $30/day however we parked at the Renaissance (about a 3 min. walk) for $22. Also room service is EXTREMELY expensive... though I am assuming they are catering to individuals with expense accounts... I found the Concierge to be quite helpful.... though the front desk was a little bit aloof. The rooms were large and the beds were EXTREMELY comfortable! The location is very central and walking distance to downtown (St, Catherine, Cresent Street etc.) The most major annoyance was upon my return I realized they had charged my credit card an extra $200.00. I believe this was a deposit, though I was never informed of such. When I called the hotel I was told the monies would be released in 7 days, so we will see if it is.........

Great rooms, excellent service, expensive. I didn't eat at the hotel, didn't buy the internet service, didn't spend one penny beyond the room, parking ($30) and taxes. I had a great stay. The location is convenient for driving to/from, subway, etc. A bit far from Old Montreal, but we walked it in 20 minutes or so.

This was our second stay. The place is just terrific. The rooms are nicely decorated and I love the giant closet with all the shelves, easy to pack and unpack. The bathrooms are great (though the glass shower doors do leak) The only problem we encountered was with housekeeping. They came fairly late, around 3-4 PM and returned at 6PM to do turndown. We asked them to come back later and that was done. Still annoying if you like an afternoon nap. The rates we got this year were through some montreal website, that listed all the specials in the city, then had you book through the hotel itself. We got a deal where the second night was 50% off and included a full American breakfast. The food at Renoir is on the expensive side so this was a terrific feature of the package. There was no booking fees and cancellation was same day. Better deal than anything on the hotel's website.

If your idea of luxury is the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons brocade, velvet, swags and overstuffed sofa school, then this hotel is not for you. On the other hand, if you want stunning contemporary style, exquisite furnishings, top-class service, wow-factor bathrooms, all wrapped in a dramatic modernist architectural package, then you will love the Sofitel Montreal. It is deliberately 21st Century, right down to the lobby music. The rooms are large and nicely furnished (I had a deluxe twin), with dramatic city views from floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows, the bathrooms are huge, with a separate shower and very good lighting, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, Canadian contemporary art decorates the rooms and public spaces. Scented candles perfume the lobby with a pleasant ambiance. The beds are most comfortable. The hotel location is great for the Downtown area: the Peel Metro stop is one block away, as the entrance to Montreal`s vast underground city. It`s not often that I can say that my experience of a hotel was almost energizing or uplifting -- and I travel a lot -- but frankly this is how I felt about this Sofitel. My only niggles are that the lobby mood music can be intrusively loud, so that sometimes one has the sense that one has accidentally walked into a hip bar rather than a cool hotel, and food prices are, well, pricey. Nevertheless, I loved this hotel, and would choose it every time over the conventional, oh-so-familiar 4 and 5 star chain hotels that abound in Montreal.
