Stayed at the Hotel Butterfly for one week at the end of January. It is a comfortable, attractive hotel in a central position and about 4-5 minutes walk from the station up to Gornergrat, and that is wearing ski boots and carrying skis. The staff were always pleasant and helpful. We had a superior room which was large with plenty of room for two sofas and twin beds which were pushed together. It was nicely furnished and decorated with plenty of storage space. The essential tea making equipment was present. No mini bar. The bathroom was large, modern, clean. The bath had an unruly shower attachment and there was a plastic shower curtain. We did not have much of a view from our first floor room which was fine in winter but I might have been disappointed in the summer months. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice. There was a set menu for dinner with no choice. This consisted of starter, soup, help yourself from salad bar, main course, dessert, and the food was always lovely. We had an excellent holiday.

My family and I just returned from a week at the Hotel Butterfly in Zermatt, Switzerland. We take a ski vacation every December and this was by far our best one yet -- in no small measure due to the hospitality and comfortable accommodations of our wonderful innkeepers! Although it is indeed a hotel, the management runs it like a cozy inn and their friendly attention to all our needs was a real rarity in today's cookie cutter hotel chains. Verena and Arnaldo Lembo and Frank and Simone Schilling go to every effort to know their guests and to encourage a comfortable familiarity amongst us all. There were kids of all ages (from babies to teenagers) as well as young couples and old timers ,and the apres ski hours in front of the warm fire while enjoying drinks, snacks and the good company of the hotel's international guests was a much anticipated part of our day. We were on a meal plan (breakfast and dinner) and never once considered eating elsewhere as the food was top notch and served in the hotel's lovely restaurant by an attentive wait staff who made it a point of remembering our preferences (from our wine selections and food choices to our decaf espresso). The rooms are warm and cozy with all the amenities to make us comfortable and the staff made everything effortless -- from transporting our luggage from the station and checking it straight through to our final destination at our departure to helping us organize our days skiing, shopping, sightseeing or enjoying some great spa services both at the hotel and in town. We usually try a different ski resort every year but we've already booked out stay at the Butterfly for next year!

Arriving in Zermatt we checked with Tourist Infomation at the train station for the directions to our hotel. We orginally had reservations at Le Petite but they had a plumbing problem and we were upgraded to thier sister hotel...The Butterfly. Lucky us. This was a beautiful hotel built in Swiss chalet style just a block off the main street. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. The rooms were delightful with little balconies. The hotel was clean and classy. The breakfast is what you would expect for a European breakfast but filling and perfect for us. Zeramtt is a magical place and The Buttefly provided us with a stay in a Swiss chalet...it was a great two days!

We just stayed at the Best Western Hotel Butterfly. Although this hotel does not have a view of the Matterhorn, it was located on a quiet street just a short walk from the train station and the main shopping/strolling street. Our room was very clean and large, with a very large bathroom, coffee maker, and nice porch with chairs. Breakfast included hard boiled eggs and a variety of ham, cheese, breads, coffee, fruit - the usual fare. We did access the internet very cheaply from the lobby. The staff was very helpful and provided us with maps and suggested walks. There is a Coop food store near the train station.
