Stayed for 4 nights, rooms not as expected , werent told showers were in our room, warm enough on an evening but very draughty and small for a double.Breakfast was ok but chef didnt know how to cook a fried egg so would avoid if possible, staff didnt seem to have a great deal of hospitality experience, wouldnt stay again.

Alas despite the good reviews of late our experience was appalling. Turning up at the appointed time on the coldest night of the year thus far we were told the hotel had no trace of our two night booking made through a reputable on line booking agency some two weeks earlier. The woman manager could not have been less sympathetic. It wasn't her fault she said and with Cheltenham races on the next day she saw little prospect of booking us in elsewhere. The chance early checkout of another couple secured us one night but it was until another hour or so later that we found a booking for the next night some twenty miles or so away in what turned out to be a well run and comfortable but rather characterless modern hotel on the edge of an industrial estate. To add insult to injury the central heating had broken down in our room at the Tudor House but we only realised that when we returned to the hotel after dinner.
So we never really got to see the good service experienced by others, we missed the opportunity to see Tewkesbury in daylight (but had a great meal and service at the Thai night of the restaurant attached to the Abbey hotel) and we wasted a great deal of time and energy.
Needless to say we have lodged a formal complaint with the Tudor House's parent company. Hope others have a better experience than we did.

We stayed at this hotel for one night, whilst on a trip to Tewkesbury. We had a room in the refurbished "Granary" - a separate building behind the hotel. The room was great - clean, comfy beds, newly fitted out en-suite and very quiet, as it was looking out over the river.
The staff were friendly and efficient, and the breakfast was excellent. If I end up visiting Tewkesbury again, I would happily stay again.
The hotel itself is full of character, and I had read reviews talking about some disruption from renovations taking place. Although "The Secret Garden" was closed for works there was no other evidence of any problems.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel last week and I have to say that I was very impressed.
First of all, I phoned the hotel on the morning that we were due to arrive and explained that since we were going to a wedding, we would like to check in 2 hours early if possible. The manager said that this would not be a problem and that he would arrange for our room to be done straight away.
When we arrived at the hotel, upon check in, the manager noticed that we were staying in a twin room. I explained that this was because there were no standard double rooms available when I booked. He promptly upgraded us to a superior room with a double bed (at no extra charge).
Overall, the service at this hotel was impeccable. Our room was fantastic (we stayed in separate outbuilding which had been completely refurbished) and the staff could not have done any more to make us feel more welcome.
It is true that parts of the hotel could be described as "shabby" but it is a very old building and therefore comes with the territory. If you want a modern hotel with all the facilities, then this place is probably not for you. However, if you want somewhere with character and great service, then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

This was our first stay at this hotel. We found the hotel and staff second to non. The food was first rate-- so good going back again at the beginning of next month! The hotel is still undergoing refurbishment, but found that didn’t detract from our stay. The rooms as comfortable, have the usual tea/coffee making facilities, TV, etc. rooms are clean and warm. Floorboards creak a little, but what does one expect in a place so old and full of history. Can highly recommend this hotel, l certainly will be staying there many times in the future.
