"The bathroom/shower on the top floor was disgusting. It was supposed to be light blue but it had a dirty browny colour half way up the curtain. No cleaning equipment available. Matalan only down the road and considering how expensive the rooms were I don't see why they cannot be changed every fortnight..."

Overall a plesant stay for ?50

We booked on line, and gave the card info required, but still had to do it again when we arrived! no explaination was given why! We were catching an early flight from Luton the next day. But, without a doubt the biggest rip off hotel we have ever experienced. Shabby, inadequate, poorly staffed, reception was in the bar or vica versa, was one and the same!! They literally stole two days money for one evenings stay! there was apparently an internet error and we were told we had booked for the day after we wanted to stay..... The place was empty, but they made no exception and charged us for that extra day!. My partner queried it with the management, so they cancelled my card and demanded cash!! or i guess they would have thrown us out at 11oclock at night! The manager sent the poor receptionist up to tell us we owed more money, she looked very hangdog and wobegone, as if she had been through it all before! I had called them the day before to get directions as the map was down, receptionist checked my details but never once said we were booked on the wrong day! The room was sparse and not too clean looking, no pictures on the walls, hardly any tea, coffee or milk for our convenience. When my partner went down to complain about the extra money being charged, he was told the conversation had been recorded and videoed! and i myself was threatened the next day when i complained!! This hotel is a hell hole, would not recommend it to my worst enemy, Keep well away, am definately going to try and get my money back as i think we were well and truely fleeced!!

The hotel's facilities are adequate when there are just a few guests but probably not when the hotel is full. I don't know how many of the rooms are en-suite but I suspect very few are. The one shower per 12 or so rooms therefore would be grossly inadequate when the hotel is fully booked. There is a notice in the ground floor shower room asking guests to "press the button hard to start the shower". You really do have to press hard! It took a while but I finally managed to switch it on. If I ever went back I think the notice would still be there - I doubt they rush to fix anything. On my second day I couldn't get the shower to work at all. I mentioned this to reception as I was leaving and they said I should have come into reception to report it and they would have switched it on. Staff could not understand that I might be unwilling to do that, even if the staff did happen to be around before 8 am. "Well, you should have come to see us then you wouldn't have had a problem, would you!" Oh, OK, it was my fault! Sorry! I could tell several other tales about unhelpful staff if I had the time to do so. Prior to booking out, I honestly thought that the hotel was probably good value for money but extremely basic, but the attitude of the staff make it rather worse than basic. Car parking for perhaps 9 cars - they have many, many rooms. My advice? Pay an extra £10 and stay in a real hotel. ... and don't believe the reviews of their webmaster - you cannot give an anonymous review as the hotel management are told who gave which reviews. Call me paranoid but I prefer the anonymity you get on sites such as this!

For it's price it's not a bad hotel and the staff is friendly. Try to avoid the rooms at the busy street side, as there is a lot of traffic noise, even at night. If you are lucky you'll get a spacious room, however you could also end up with a cramped room with hardly any space to move around. The ensuite bathroom had carpet in it, which I found very unusual and not very hygienic. The walls are quite thin, so if you have a heavy snorring neighbour earplugs might be of use.

What can I say? Small shabby Rooms, ridiculous payment rules and draconian cancellation policy. They refused to take cash payment and insisted on a credit card. The staff were rude when we tried to book and kept putting hurdles in front of us. When we checked out at 8 in the morning a day early they took payment for the final night and when I questioned it I was told it was policy and what was I going to do about it? . I also asked if we would get our money back if the rooms were let, nothing. I understand that they must get a lot of cancellations and I bet they wonder why. They could have even tried being polite, that might have eased matters. I understand now why they were so desperate for a credit card number. I stay in hotels all over the country and have never been left with a worse impression of ANYWHERE. Basically I was made to feel like I was bound to do a runner without paying. Apart from the poor parking and traffic noise and all of the above, the breakfast is OK and it's 10 minutes to town. And at least one of the staff was polite and helpful. Basically though I wouldn't bother.
