"I think to start with i should say that many of the reviews on this sight are unfair. The corridors are a bit creaky but apart from that the whole time i spent in Menzies hotel was very pleasant. Myself and my girlfriend were made to feel very welcome by the staff who were both polite and very helpful..."

I recommend this hotel for: Older travelers, Tourists.
Nice hotel close to center of town. We ( 2 adults and an infant) stayed here for 1 night. The room was small according to USA standards, but decent for England. It had a nice balcony overlooking a pond. Breakfast was excellent - huge selection of cold and hot items.

I stayed in this hotel for two nights - somewhat against my better judgement, but virtually unable to find another hotel in the area for the dates I required. The room I was allocated was tiny, overlooking the carpark, on the groundfloor, which meant it was not possible to open the window - could be a problem in warmer weather. Both evenings the remote control on the TV was not working - replaced once but still did not work. Breakfast was poor - severly diluted coffee in a cafetier, old cutlery and generally downbeat environment - when was the carpet last swept for example? The bathroom was a disgrace, dirty and in dire need of a refurbishment. All in all a very disappointing experience, made even worse since the nightly charge was close to a prestigious hotel a little out of Bath that had strong appeal but, on those dates, no available rooms. On the positive side if you are looking for easy access to Bath town centre with good parking facilities ( a real problem in Bath these days) and you are willing to put up with problems this hotel might suit you.

Having booked the only hotel in Bath with rooms available over Easter I was apprehensive after reading the reviews here. Our room was clean, smart, airy and light. While the decor was like many hotels around the world it was comfortable and convenient. The staff were efficient and friendly. I suspect that anyone who eats at a chain hotel restaurant when they have the choice of all the wonderful eating places available in Bath needs their opinions taken with a pinch of salt. I have stayed in other Bath hotels and found the onsite parking more convenient than any other hotel so close to the centre. I would stay here again. Bob Croxford. I was really worried that this place was going to be terrible after reading the reviews on this site, so was mentally prepared for the worst. We had stayed in a terrible hotel in Bath two years ago which was filthy, staffed by students, had clearly not been decorated since the 1970s. It was the cheapest hotel we could find in Bath at the time (almost half the price of this) and we soon found out why. Imagine my dismay when I Trip-Advisored Menzies (which we had booked confidently but in haste based on it's dubious 'Four Star' claim) to find out it ranked lower than the nightmare hotel! So maybe I went in with lowered expectations, but I was genuinely pleasantly surprised to find a bright, modern hotel with a large reception area and bar, helpful and polite staff and a clean and tastefully decorated room. Our room had a pretty good view over Bath. Usually when we book through cheap deal websites we end up looking at air conditioning units or a wall, so this was a bonus. The waterside bar was also a nice enough place to spend an hour before heading into the town, which is about 10 minutes walk along the river, but a lone traveller would not be advised to go this way after dark. Our rate did not include breakfast, so I cannot review that, but there is a row of neighbourhood shops less than five minutes from the hotel, with a pub that does an excellent and huge English breakfast for less than a fiver (this place doesn't look very inviting but the food was good - sorry can't remember name), and an organic cafe that does bacon and sausage sandwiches, and probably cakes and pastries too. I agree that the hotel is overpriced for what it is, but the reason for this is that it is in Bath! All our other options were around the same price (I refused to go back to the other place!). There is also free parking and a large car park, which will save you money over other more central hotels. In conclusion, I found this a clean and perfectly acceptable place to stay, equivalent to a decent three-star chain hotel. Nothing mind- blowing but I just wanted to reassure people that it is not as bad as others have suggested.

Becky and the team at the front desk are amazing - they go beyond the call of duty to ensure that you are looked after! Rooms are comfy and clean and the bar has good wine and potatoe wedges. Thanks for looking after us Becky and team - we will be back!!
