Ste7 has stayed here and says:
"I had the pleasure of staying at the King Solomon for 3 nights last summer (and am on this website to check out prices for going back). This hotel has so many good qualities. The location is just right. It's only about 10/15 mins walk to the Jaffa Gate and the Old City. Also just 10 mins walk to the..."

I am a tour guide and the last time I was at King Solomon in Jerusalem was November-December 2007. The hotel is spacious, big rooms, wide beds, large hall etc. But everything seems like an old empire. It is obvious that this hotel had its best moments many years ago. The price is OK, the food is nice. A lot of sweets also. The desk is OK, friendly people. The location of the hotel is one of the best. Ben Yehuda street is at walking distance (many bars and clubs). Old City as well. As a conclusion I recommend it if you are new to the city and don't want to get lost :D King David at 5 minutes away is much much better but much more expensive...

Stayed for five nights on a two-week trip. Hotel had clearly seen better days. There was simply nothing "nice" about the place. You get a stale feeling. Staff were never particularly friendly, and were rude at times. It appeared that many orthodox folks prefer to stay here. Breakfast was good, as is the location. There is a "Cup-a-Joe" and a couple of other nice restaurants across the street. Wireless internet was around $25/day. They had the audacity to charge more for diet sprite (12 shekels) at the bar than for regular sprite (ten shekels), insisting that the ingredients cost more. Pool closes at 6:00 PM and has separate male/female swim times.

This hotel's best feature is its location. A fifteen minute walk to the city centre or the Old City and close to many restaurants, shops and other facilities. The views from the deluxe superior room balconies are wonderful and make up for other shortcomings of the hotel. We booked 2 of these rooms which were very reasonable in terms of size and the bathrooms were large enough. There are no tea/coffee making facilities available and the hotel is no more than 3 star standard. If you lie in bed and watch TV with no movement in the room - all the lights turn off after a set period of time which gets extremely annoying. Housekeeping staff were both friendly and efficient in contrast to the staff in the dining room who seemed experts at walking around trying to make as little eye contact with guests as possible, in case they were asked for coffee or omelettes. The breakfast buffet was appealing and the food always fresh. Service in the lobby bar was extremely slow. For the price we paid given that we were out exploring Jerusalem most of the time; the hotel was perfect for our needs.

Traveled with a group and stayed here for 4 nights, 1 over Shabbat. The food was good, the location was great, but the hotel is outdated. I have to agree that there is a stinky smell throughout, and while we stayed on the non-smoking floor, cigarette smoke came into our room periodically. We happened to have a room with a great view and a balcony, but others were not so lucky.

Very large room. 2 double beds in room and balcony. Excellent location. Walking distance to shopping and Old City. Average hotel. We chose all 1st class hotel category, but not 1st class by USA standards . All of the hotels we stayed at in Israel were just average. Adequate for our budget, but not excellent. Room was for 3 persons. Myself, husband and 23 year old daughter. Bathroom and bedroom needed to be refurbished. Basically clean but not spotless. Breakfast very nice and plentiful. Staff very friendly. Hot water for shower did not work in first room but staff willing to change room without difficulty.
