We stayed for two nights and overall had a lovely stay , food provided was good , breakfast was ample and well cooked . Service at breakfast was hit and miss though some orders not taken down properly and having to go back to the kitchen to be recooked, or requested twice which was a shame and this was due to language barriers that are an inconvenience in most hotels these days. This being said the service was overall excellent nothing being too much trouble at reception and the handling of the wedding that we were attending at Audleys wood was proffesional , efficent and unintrusive and ensured that the bride and groom had a fantastic time. The wedding facilities were good , and if anyone would like to know more please ask. My gripe with this hotel was the room , we stayed in a ground floor 'executive' room , the room ticked all the boxes for the AA4* that this hotel has in terms of facilities , however the tv was'nt properly tuned in , high level dusting was'nt done , bathroom although clean needed a deepclean namely the grouting . Our main complaint was the dubious white stains on the bed panel though which was not a pleasant first impression , a valance around the bed would solve this problem and could also be kept clean. The room was well equipped from trouser press to telephone in the bathroom , but overall rather dated decor and tired. I did hear that the hotel has recently changed ownership and hopefully this will mean refurbing the rooms , mending the lamp in the car park and the fence outside the main entrance would also go a long way to improving first impressions. We would highly recommend taking advantage of the massage service available on Saturdays if you are able , we both enjoyed this very much and it was the perfect antidote to the effects of the wedding party the night before. This was arranged again very easily by reception and we were allowed a late check out in order to accommodate this. The flexibilty shown was very much appreciated. Overall as above the rooms need some TLC but this hotel is well worth staying at because of the staff , many thanks for a nice stay.

This lovely hotel, situated just outside Basingstoke, Hampshire, England is a wonderful experience in a large country home. Although the staff were busy with a wedding when we stayed, nothing was too much trouble, we were treated excellently. We had a beautiful room, dinner and breakfast were very nice. The staff were exceptional. We were greated pleasantly and helpfully both in reception and for our meals.

Lovely location, the hotel itself if really nice with log fires in the lounge area and the look of the restaurant is really nice too with high "church like ceilings". We booked a Chocolate & champagne all inclusive weekend. On arrival the room we were given was in the new wing right at the end. It was a decent size room and the bed was huge and quite comfy. On second look however, the decor was shabby, the paint on the door frames were chipped and the old mini bar that has been turned into just a cupboard had seen better days. The trouser press didnt work and we had to get an iron. The lights in the small hallway near the bathroom didnt work and the towel rail in the bathroom had been turned off. The kettle looked like it had last been seen in a Travelodge was full of white sludge and had not passed its electrical test. We had dinner in the gallery the first evening and it started off ok, not that busy, staff seemed ok and the waitress we had friendly. That was until the main course arrived, my fiance's blade of beef was stone cold when it arrived and you needed a magnifying glass in order to see the pork I had ordered on my plate. The beef was returned to the kitched and we got a new one, unfortunatley this meant we didnt actually get to eat it together. The chef however did come out to apologise. The next morning we had breakfast and had to send it back because it was cold again. We complained about the room and the restaurant, we were offered an "updrade" and were moved to a room with a smaller bed and a view of a roof and sky light. This room however was a bit more cosy and warmer and the trouser press worked! Towel rail still didnt work so they cant in any of the rooms. The following evening it went a lot more smoothly. Although on both mornings at breakfast we did notice they hadnt vacummed up from the night before and there was food over the chairs we had to brush away and food debris on the floor. Our food was hot that evening. The lamb though again we needed a magnifying glass to actually see it was on the plate. Diners in the restaurant commented to us that they had been served their main course before their starters and one couple on saturday night had to wait an hour and half to get a table even though they had booked. Saturday was a busy day because of a wedding and the bar area was heaving until they were summoned over to the marquee. We then got woken up at 315 in the monring by drunken wedding guests returning to their rooms. Oh and one last thing. The fluffy towels and bathrobes as advertised did not materialise. No bath robes at all and the towels looked about ten years old, lost their fluff and were dirty and stained! Overall, I think they are trying really hard to be a first class hotel, the location is beautiful and the hotel is too but they need to concentrate on the smaller details in order to get those repeat customers instead of concentrating on just weddings.

We have just returned from celebrating our daughter's/son-in-law's wedding at Audleys Wood. It was a fantastic weekend and I would like to congratulate all the staff and people 'behind the scenes' on making this an absolute memorable time for all concerned. Most of our guests stayed for 2 nights and we organised a 'hot finger' buffet for the Friday night to be held in the Sir George Bradshaw Suite which was excellent and allowed most of the guests to become acquainted prior to the 'Big Day.' Saturday arrived and the wedding was held in the Gallery which was ideal for this type of ceremony. 2 hours after the wedding, the Gallery had been transformed into the perfect venue for our wedding breakfast. It looked absolutely amazing. The food was superb - compliments to the chef - and many of our guests commented on how it had arrived 'nice and hot' which was good to hear. The evening buffet/disco was held in the Pavilion and, yet again, the cold buffet was well received. The rooms were spacious, clean, well kept and I never heard any complaints. My daughter had the Jane Austen Suite and this was ideal for the bridal party having a large bedroom (with 4-poster bed) and a good size en-suite, an extensive lounge area with settees, coffee tables, television, etc (which was ideal for the morning of the wedding as there was ample room for bridesmaids, mums & dads, hairdresser, photographer etc) and as it was near Christmas there was a large, lit, Christmas tree in the corner - a nice finishing touch. I know a wedding weekend has a different feel to a normal weekend but my hubby and I have spent several weekends, prior to the wedding, at Audleys Wood and have never been disappointed. During the summer months it was so relaxing to sit in the grounds over afternoon tea or the odd tipple! We will definitely be returning in 2008 and several of our friends/relatives have also said they will be making a point of spending a 'get-away' weekend at Audleys. All-in-all a wonderful weekend which I could not fault. A special thank-you to Mike who was Master of Ceremonies and to Emma who was the Wedding Co-ordinator - they were both brilliant. See you in 2008!!
