Barkin has stayed here and says:
"The Penz is one of my favourite hotels in the world. Hard to say why exactly, just really always a great experience, rooms are fairly small, but well appointed in that European minimalist sort of way. I love the fifth floor lounge, breakfast is great, the staff are awesome, and the locaiton is absolutely..."

Modern hotel, come for the breakfast and views

My husband and I came to Innsbruck for 4 nights over Christmas, for the purpose of cross-country skiing. We chose the Penz Hotel based on previous reviews. I am not a fan of the prevalent alpine lodge style that is found in many of the other surrounding hotels, and liked the idea of a modern hotel. We were not disappointed. The rooms were immaculate, if a bit small. As other reviewers have already stated, the breakfast was superb. Not only is the selection of fresh fruits, pastries etc. unrivalled by any place I've ever stayed, but the 360 degree view of the surrounding Alps from the breakfast room is nothing short of spectatcular. The location was also ideal, near to restaurants, bars etc. including a number of good restaurants indside of an adjoining mall. The bar staff and cleaning staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We were slightly less impressed with the front desk staff who did not seem very knowledgeable or willing to help with our requests. For instance we were there for cross-country, i.e. Nordic, skiing and not downhill skiing. From research that I'd done from home I knew that there was a shuttle that we could catch to take us to cross country trails. However the front desk clerk was unable to find anything about this, and seemed to think that there was no such service. (We ended up doing more research on our own and figuring it out ourselves). The front desk staff also wasn't very helpful with restaurant recommendations or making reservations. That said, the front desk staff was still friendly--I just think that they could have been a bit better informed. All in all, the Penz hotel is a really lovely place, and if we return to Innsbruck, we will definitely stay there again.

Very convenient in Innsbruck

This was our first visit to Innsbruck (a family of four with 2 kids), had two rooms in January 2008 for three nights. As previous reviews stated, it is clean, modern, very conveniently located and the breakfast buffet is a big plus. Innsbruck itself is not a place I would spend much time in , but it is a convenient base - if you have a car - to visit other resorts in the Tyrol. Tha adjacent mall and large parking facilities are also very handy. The hotel is located in a very safe area, and you can enjoy early morning or late night walks around it. In summary, the Penz was exactly as we expected from previous reviews and would not hesitate to stay there again, should I happen to go to Innsbruck, even thoug I discovered Salzburg a much more enjoyable place.

We had one night in this hotel before flying home. The room was not very big, but very comfortable. We liked the starkly modern decor (after ten days of Austria this was actually rather refreshing). We found the raves about the breakfast to be accurate; it IS spectacular, for the choice of food and for the view from the restaurant. As it is incuded in the roomprice the value for money was excellent. All in all we can recommand staying in this hotel.

Restaurant/Room service that provides only breakfast!

We stayed with our 2 children and nanny for 4 nights in January 2008. We found the front staff most unwelcoming - no assistance was provided for our luggage to our room, incorrect information regarding the restaurants next door was provided and they refused to mail our postcards (fully paid postage provided!) They boast a restaurant that "in the evening our restaurant is exclusively available for your dinner" but in fact only serves breakfast (which was nice). They have room service which does not involve the provision of food. Luckily, the restaurants in the attached mall provided take away (again something the front desk incorrectly stated that they don't do). We did, however, enjoy our rooms which were immaculately cleaned everyday and the bar staff (don't worry our children were with their nanny) were very friendly. Great location and fab views from the 5th floor. If you don't need to deal much with front desk staff and you don't have children then I would stay here again. The Tourist Board Information Staff (close to the hotel) were excellent and very friendly.

We stayed here for 2 nights in Jan and wished it could have been longer. The Penz staff were most helpful when reserving a room and giving advice in advance of our stay. The hotel is very modern with a fab glass lift that looks out over the alps as you go up floors-great view! The room was also very modern yet comfortable-very quiet too. We chose a Romantic package and got a lovely bouquet of flowers, champagne and fresh fruits. We were looking forward to the breakfast having read the reviews here and it really was excellent-probably the best I've had in a hotel outside of the US. There was eveything you could think of and lots of choice. Plus, they made fresh cappucinos and lattes for you! The hotel bar is also a nice spot for a cocktail. If you go to Innsbruck you MUST go to the Nordpark-fantastic experience in the snow, even for us non-skiers. Nice gluhwein at the top too! The trip up was so quick and efficient. We would most definitely stay here again.
