I recommend this hotel for: A romantic getaway, Tourists, An amazing honeymoon.
I can only echo the previous review. We were presently suprised when checking in, It is like the Mexico version of the W on a budget. The check in went smoothly and we went to get settled in our room, on the way to the elevator one of their time share touts stopped us with one of his scripted speeches above how the ME Cancun wants its visitors to reccomend the hotel and if you just go up to see the "Level" whether you like it or not they will give you a money off a tour of your choosing, free breakfast, and 15% off of the drinks/meals/spa treatments, ect..This was suppose to be a no pressure just take a look kind of thing. This is quickly turned into a huge scam and waste of time. Basically most of what was promised was complete lies. Ask yourself, what reputable hotel chain employs such tactics and has touts prowling the lobby looking for people to waste their time? Give me a break, speaks alot about the management of the place. The supposed boss only emerges when you decline their ridicolous offer. You would think if someone wanted a "time share" they would seek that out and not the reverse of being harrassed everytime you want to book a tour or walk around in the lobby. Note: book your tours over the internet or somewhere else, the AMEX tour desk has very inflated prices compared to others where we booked. The rooms themselves are nice in a mexico kind of way. They are decorated in a contemporary style. The LCD TV has problems turning on and the shower is a bit tricky to get the hot water flowing. The bed was semi comfortable. Housekeeping was hit or miss, a dirty cup stayed in our room the entire stay and sometimes our room didnt look like it had been cleaned except for the bed being made. Elevators where constanly broken, hallways un airconditioned and it looks like there the place was refurbished after the hurricance which is why it is showing the wear and tear. The resort is mainly pools, which are nice. The Maxim beach club is nothing more than a restaurant with regular resort employees and two adult pools with bed and loungers and loud music (dont think maxim girls are going to be serving you). The hotel does not have alot of beach front, it is about the size of an enlarged walkway with a retainer wall. Dont stay there if you wish to actually lounge on the beach. Considering the shady nature of having touts prowling the lobby and constanly approaching and harrassing you, the lies, and the waste of time, I would not stay there again or reccomend it. When you go on vacation you should be on vacation and not have to be worried about being scammed by hotel employees.

My husband & I stayed at the ME from June 29 to July 6. For the most part, I loved this place mainly because the ambience is similar to a W Hotel & the service was that of a 5 star hotel. I’ll try to keep this brief. We stayed on The Level. The “continental” breakfast was fantastic and included lox, other meats, fruit, cheeses, FANTASTIC coffee, etc. The best thing is that you can eat your breakfast as you stare at the ocean. The Level Concierge are the BEST!!! (In fact, I would compare them to the Concierge at the Four Seasons in Vegas.) About the rest of the hotel: The sushi at Salt was FANTASTIC & the service was almost too good to believe! The Spa was just o.k. I had a facial and a pedicure. I paid a little extra for a pedicure with exfoliation, but it only lasted a few seconds. The Rose Bar was fun most nights as Jovany took care of us, taught me some Spanish & recommended Basic - the coolest club EVER where Locals go as we were not trying to hang out at Senor Frogs or Daddy-O’s-type places. The dinner at the pool/beach restaurant is excellent. However, the lunch is just average. The view is so amazing, you don’t really notice the food really. I rented a Cabana at the adult pool most days. Some people complain of the price. However, $30 to $45 per day is a whole lot cheaper than what you pay in Vegas or Miami. On the weekends, there is a DJ and (get this) a trumpet or saxophone player periodically plays along with the music. This was so very cool! We loved the Internet Caf?. I cannot remember her name, but the nicest woman ever works there. Depending on my mood, I ordered wine, coffee, salad, whatever. There were a few issues with our room: The T.V. took forever to turn on, the hot water had issues on three days and the maids dropped & broke my curling iron. These issues were minor because we had a great time & will return! The ME gets 4 instead of 5 stars because drinks are a bit expensive. One more thing, we met some cool folks from New York, Canada & Mexico! Loved the diversity!

Stayed at the Melia during the first of July 2008. It is hard to know where to begin to describe our family's extraordinary experience. The contemporary setting, pools, lobby and rooms far exceeded our expectations and were truly beautiful. We stayed in a beautiful suite with ocean views just perfect for our family and friends. The music that played throughout the resort added to the relaxing art deco atmosphere. The hammocks and cabanas at the pool were nice ammenities not seen at American resorts. The service was impeccable. The hotel was convenient to the Isla mall and the public bus system, Xel Ha is a MUST day trip (Beatrice is an excellent tour guide with Best Day Tours) and the Melia spa is a treat. Don't miss either of these! The Beach House, Cenacolo, Casa Margarita, and La Distillera were among the awesome restaurants viisited. The public bus drivers required reminding on several occassions to return change for our bus fare. One bus driver refused to take a one dollar bill for the 65 cent fare. when other drivers did not mind a US dollar. The lmajority of locals were all helpful to tourists. We would definitely stay here again.

I just arrived from the one, I would want to call "The Cancun Experience" me and two of my best friends spent 4 days at the ME by Melia Cancun, and let me tell you that it was in terms of Quality, service and value, the most complete and relaxing expirience that I had in years. I have seen on the Hotel website that it was completly renewed after the Huracaine and I took it because of it and for the pictures that the showed it looks very nice. But let me tell you that what you see over the website it is just a small peak of the magnificent reality of this wonderfull place. Since you arrived the atmosphere of the hotel transforms you getting you in to an elegant, sophisticated, peacefull and relaxing mood. The minimalist decoration is awsome filled with details, Art work in the main lobby infinity edge fountains splashed with sculptures, simply stunning and impecable desing. The scents that you inhale troughout the lobby relax you as an aromatherapy experience. The rooms have plenty space the bed is very confortable as well the bathroom. They have several pools areas, the infinity bar area with bali Bungalows and beds facing the ocean are unique, the main pool with whirpool massages and different kinds of water falls and showers are great. The pool restaurant serve really good food drinks and appetizers with local specialities, the service is A1. The breakfast buffet at the salt restaurant for 24$ offers you everything you may wish and more, gourmet meals, exotic seasonal fruits and juices. Overall all the staff from bellboys to frontdesk personal, salutes you putting their hand in their hearts as a gesture of respect and kindness with all their heart ( a very unique detail). This Hotel is ideal for Couples, Honeymooners and young adults who like fine affordable Luxury accomodations with superior service. Highly recomended!!!
