Had a week here as part of a tour operator ski hol. Price very competitive so we worried about what it would be like. The room was basic but large with 2 balconies as we had paid a small fee for a view of the Eiger. The view out was lovely day and evening across the valley. Loads of hot water and a small bath with hand held shower ok for us, might be difficult if you were large.
We had a half board option but were prepared to forgoe the food as we had such a cheap deal. However we were so tired we eat there most of the time.
Breakfast ,again nothing fancy ,but as much as you could eat. Yogurt juice coffee cereal eggs ham cheese bread. Tinned fruit was strange but.......Dinner no choice but 4 courses and if you didn't like anything they would do something else for you.
If you are on a budget and have activities which will take you out most of the time this is fine. Serving staff very nice.

I stayed in this hotel for three nights in July 2007. I had read the reviews prior to booking and to be honest I wasn't expecting too much, however I thought the standard would be reasonable. It was by far the most basic hotel I have ever experienced in my travels. There were three people in our party and we were allocated a room on the top floor which I can only describe as an attic room. It was small, not well lit and had a foul smell. The bathroom was like something from the 50's and probably had the same decor.
There was no lift in the hotel meaning we had to carry our cases to the third floor, quite an achievement with the weight of my wifes case! Joking apart if you were elderly it would be very difficult. I saw numerous other hotels in Grindelwald which are far more appealing and also nearer the centre of the town. I would certainly advise travellers to avoid this hotel at all costs.

Stayed here for a couple of nights in early June 2007 (in the older "chalet" style hotel, not the newer "Cristal"). I wasn't expecting too much, as the price was pretty reasonable by Grindelwald standards. However, it exceeded expectations.
Positives:
- Staff were really friendly and helpful; e.g. sorted out a 6AM breakfast when I needed an early start.
- Price
- Rooms at the front look directly on to the Eiger north face, as does the breakfast room.
- 200 yards away from the tourist centre of town, so already a more "local" feel.
Negatives:
- Rooms at the back look out on to railway tracks, and are only 50m from the trains.
- Basic decor
- Real shortage of electrical wall sockets.

This hotel has charm. It is as far away from a typical North American hotel as you can get. Every room is unique, some have ridiculous animal themes, and some have not been changed in decades.
I had a rather large suite, space for 4 people, but only two shared the room. I think it had orange shag carpeting, not on the floors, but on the walls. I actually loved the tackiness. The bathroom was larger than it needed to be, but completely outdated. Some rooms have balconies, but not mine. Instead the 3 windows were directly in front of a stream coming from the mountain. The flowing water was so relaxing.
The rest of the hotel was cute and friendly. There is a lounge that serves no purpose, but comfortable for a handful of people.
Do not chose the half-board option. The food is not worth it. You barely understand what you are eating.
