"I stayed here for 6 weeks, working in Croatia on business. The hotel is beautiful and has an air of luxury. The staff are absolutely fantastic, so polite and cannot do enough for you. It is with good reason that this property is rated among the best hotels in the world. The staff is cordial - not friendly nor cold, which is in line with the professional atmosphere the hotel seeks to project. You will be welcomed by professionals and not Thai smiles, which some people seem to be put off by. But if you look closely, you will see that thier attitude is in line with thier dignified image. My room was not large but had enough room for a desk as well as a sitting chair and table, besides the queen size bed. The bed and indeed, the whole room was well decorated with quality, from the marble bathrooms (with shower on one side and bath on the other - while the room wasn't large, the bathroom is large) to the carpets. The restaurant is excellent although their isn't a large selection. In the immediate vicinity to the hotel are endless restaurants, so go out and enjoy them. Top down, a great hotel. The only items that I noticed, if I have to be picky, is the TV is old; you might expect in a property like this to have and LCD TV with PayTV channels. However, I rarely turn my TV on, so it really doesn't bother me. Second, A/C is central, as you will find most everywhere throughout the Balkans. Sorry to say, but you will be hard pressed to find individual A/C controls anywhere. Therefore, temperature can vary widely through the hotel, so make sure you ask for a room that makes sence for you - if you like your room 25C as many people do in some parts of the world, the top floor is best in the winter. If you ask them when you make your reservation, they should be able to guide you to a room you will enjoy. This is perhaps my biggest piece of advice when traveling in the Balkans - ask about AC for when you are arriving. I personally like my rooms cold while I sleep with many blankets and I usually find the hotels very helpful when ask about it in advance.

This hotel reeks of luxury from the moment you walk in. While staying there on business, I had the pleasure of spending an evening at this stunning hotel. Everything about this hotel reminds you that you are staying at a 5-star hotel. Amenities are fantastic and the bathroom makes you want to shower and bathe 3-5 times a day. Centrally located, quiet and a great place to stay to make your stay in Zagreb comfortable and enjoyable.

The hotel is just amazing- the rooms are with nice furniture, the bathroom is big and beautiful. All the facilities are perfect. I had a nice breakfast at charmy hall, and even the club-sandwich, which I ordered at 1a.m. was sooo delicious! I love the place and the city! The only thing that could ruin your visit is the person on the front desk, who was absolutely unpolite.

I booked this hotel having read all of the reviews on here which on balance where favourable. Generally it seems a pretty decent hotel with well furnished rooms but I did find there to be several negative issues which means I did not enjoy my stay. Most importantly my room was 25 degrees Celsuis and the temperature could not be altered through the air conditioning control panel. This is simply too hot for comfort. I informed the staff and they said this problem occurs at this time of year (late March) on the upper floors of the hotel as the central heating has to be on (it was about 5 degrees C at night time outside). I resorted to leaving the window open but the noise from the street - trams, etc meant a pretty disturbed night's sleep. I was moved to a room on the 3rd floor which was slightly cooler (22 degrees) although still not ideal and it was also a smoking room. My main point is that in all the other 5-star hotels I have stayed in you can control the temperature of the room through the air conditioning - if I want it 18 degrees then I am normally able to programme that. Moreover I found the mattress to be poor and the sheets not soft at all. All stuff you expect to be of the highest quality in a 5-star hotel. Other negatives - no pool (I thought you had to have one to be 5-star), expensive bar, etc. Staff were friendly and helpful. I also enjoyed a relaxing massage but the room experience as noted above overshadowed my stay. Overall not worth ?120 per night that I paid.

My husband and I were in Zagreb last November for the Animation festival, and stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. Upon arrival everything seemed very nice. I loved the fact the hotel was part of the old Orient Express stop over...We were put up on the 5th or 6th floor- and the room was very large and gorgeous! However- that night, upon returning to the room we discovered that our room had become a tropical zone! The room temperature was about 90 degrees F. Outside, it was snowing. We didn't care and threw open the windows to get some fresh air inside. You can only have frigid air coming in for so long! The next day we asked for our room to be changed. They complied but said that the type of room would no longer be deluxe...we didn't care! As long as the temperature could be adjusted it would be fine. We found that the dining room in the hotel was very expensive and except for one occasion, we never ate at the hotel. There were some fabulous local restaurants a 10 minute walk to the city centre that were fantastic. Zagreb was one of our favorite cities we've visited in recent years, and although this hotel is glorious to look at as an old example of Luxury travel from a bygone age, I'd prefer a better climate controlled environment!
