I stayed one night at the Radisson Santiago Plaza on February 8, 2008. The hotel is located attached to the World Trade Centre (an odd black glass building) in Las Condes, close to the Tobalaba subway station. I carried my one piece of luggage onto the subway from the Parajitos station (where the bus from Vina del Mar dropped me off) and rode the Metro to the Tobalaba station. The Tobalaba station is a main interchange between the red and blue Metro lines, and therefore it has excellent escalator access to the street. Thank goodness, because it’s a lot of steps up to the ground level with luggage! I booked the room directly with Radisson’s website and used Orbitz as a competitor to get a low rate guarantee on a junior suite.
When I checked in, I was greeted by the doorman. The lobby was nice, with a piano and an actual piano-player. The check-in staff were even nicer, and spoke English well. I received a welcome Pisco Sour drink at the bar. However, I was assigned a regular room which was the fault of the Radisson reservations people back in the States. I had to get an American reservation agent on the telephone who confirmed that I indeed booked a junior suite and eventually I was assigned the correct room. There were apples available in a bowl at the check-in desk, which I thought was great for a healthy snack.
The room itself was large, without much of a view. The separate sitting area with desk was adequately sized, with a small television. The bedroom had a nice comfortable bed and nice linens. The bathroom contained a bathtub and toilet, while the sink was outside of the bathroom. Inside the closet was a large electronic safe with enough room for my ultraportable laptop.
On the second floor of the hotel was a good-sized business center with several desktop computers with free high-speed internet. Only one computer was connected to a printer. Thumbs up to this hotel for having convenient Internet access to print boarding passes, etc.
I called for ice and it was available very quickly via room service. I asked for a map at the concierge in the daytime and the nice fellow gave me a map and suggested that I take the Metro to the Universidad de Santiago station where I could exit onto the pedestrianized Paseo Ahumada which led to the Plaza de Armas. From there it was just a short walk to the Mercado Central where I had a seafood lunch. The concierge recommended walking to the base of the San Cristobal Hill where I could visit La Chascona (one of Pablo Neruda’s homes) before taking the funicular up the top, and returning by cable car to a nice residential district about 15 minutes to the hotel. I had a great day following this itinerary so I would say that he gave great advice. He also knew when everything closed for the day, which was helpful since it was already 1:00pm when I left the hotel and time was of the essence.
In the evening, I asked a different concierge about transportation to the airport the following morning. This fellow, a Canadian who had lived many years in Montreal, told me that the “only” way to the airport was by “taxi” (he meant the hotel’s private car), and it would cost 24,000 Chilean pesos (about $50), charged to the room. Something sounded fishy so I went online to check the scoop, and found that I could book shuttle service for $20 or my own car for just $35 through TransVip, a reputable airport shuttle service. Regular black and yellow taxis were also available outside of the hotel (not in their driveway, but on the street) even at 7:00am.
The breakfast started at 6:30am and had a large selection of hot and cold items, including scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, various breads and cheese, yogurt, and fresh fruit. A variety of freshly squeezed juices (apple, orange, pineapple, papaya) were available as well.
So in summary, despite Radisson reservations (in the States) messing up my room type (not this hotel’s fault) and a concierge who flat out lied to me (probably due to a vested interest i.e., commission), the stay at this hotel was wonderful. I would happily stay again at the Radisson Santiago Plaza if in Santiago on future travels.

Great fun! After a frustrating search for decent sea food in Santiago we were pleasantly surprised by the skills of French Chef Frank. Reasonably fast, excellent, knowlegeable service, clean up-to-date ambiance, professional. Fab. Lunch menu, too. Good value.
Beats by far the fashionable Hyatt.

Nice place to stay for a night after being on the road. We got a good deal on Expedia and were happy to "take a vacation from our vacation". The rooms were clean (make sure you ask for Non smoking, unless you want the smoke smell) and comfortable. Ask for high floor for great views of City. Breakfast Buffet was good and included.

We stayed here for 6 nights in August 2007 as we usually like being at a "businessman's" hotel due to services offered. We really liked and appreciated the hotel staff - they made all our tour reservations, transportation service and all were friendly, helpful, courteous. Breakfast buffet was very nice with all the standard choices. We ate dinner in both the restaurant and in our room. We opted to buy the early check-in and late check-out package and appreciated being able to check in at 9 AM and stay until 5 PM on day of our flight. We also liked the location of the World Trade Center and all the restaurants open for lunch (it mostly closes up for dinner). We were two blocks from a major subway station of 2 lines. Plus our room which faced the Andes and was fairly high up offered a breathtaking view. We highly recommend this hotel - we find the Radisson hotels to be very good.
