American chain (I guess). Dull, businessy feel to it. Virtually everyone who was staying there were businessmen in suits. Impossible to walk to the hotel without walking through the car park barriers.
Booked in to be given two twin beds. No double beds available apparently, unless we paid ?17 upgrade to an executive room. Was unclear whether I'd booked incorrectly so didn't kick up too much of a fuss. Should have done - I hadn't booked incorrectly.
Not only had I booked correctly, the rate included their wireless lan, but no password was given by the hotel staff when I booked in. Classy way of trying to extract more money from us.
Hotel is a ten minute walk from the centre of the town; but dull and boring - and their insistence on charging for everything short of air (and that was probably chargeable too) begins to grate after a while.

This is a good hotel in Utrecht, close to railway station and to a big partyplace :-) Hotel is - i think - mainly for business travellers, rooms are well decorated, services are okay. Bed was comfortable.
But: if you read the hotel guide, you will learn, that if you want something from hotel, you must pay. Even to send a fax (i think today it's quite a big joke from a business hotel). Internet price is terrible high, also breakfast.
There is fitness and sauna, we didn't try it, and also don't even touch the minibar, because prices are horrible.

My boyfriend and I spent a week in Holland from the 12th November 2007. From the 15th we were booked into the Park Plaza in Utrecht, (right near the train station) for 4 days in conjunction with the big collectors fair held in the Jaarbeurs Centre. All I can say is since we got back home we've had serious "Park Plaza blues"...what do we mean? Well, we missed it so much we felt like booking another trip! We'd only stayed there once before and that was only for one night so we didn't really get any perception of the place that time round. As we go to Utrecht twice a year we usually booked the NH Utrecht which we always thought was the best choice... until now! And this discovery only occurred because I was unable to book NH Utrecht through my usual website (it refused to come up under my browser). Every other website I tried had crazy high rates so I turned my attention to Park Plaza that I managed to find for 86.00 euros per night including breakfast and various taxes (be careful when booking hotels in Holland as many have extra taxes ie. city tax - that are not always included in your final price). I thought it was going to be just 'adequate' but it was so much better than we expected. Everywhere was spotless, the foyer/lounge area looked very contemporary but it was relaxing as it was never full of people. The bedrooms were very spacious and you arrived to them by 1 of 2 quiet elevators that had glass walls so you got the view outside while going up or down which was a nice touch. Never waited more than a few seconds either which is NOT the case at NH Utrecht!. The toiletries seemed more sophisticated than what I remembered on my previous fleeting visit and the spotlessly clean bathroom had plenty of room to manoeuvre, with the WC in a corner by itself (hate it when the shower and sink are almost on top of the toilet...yeuck!). But what about the food? Well, brekkie was inclusive and although not nearly as decadent (and eccessive) as the one laid on by NH Utrecht it still ticked all the right boxes 100%. On reflection it was probably healthier than NH, even though there were the usual cooked eggs, bacon, sausage etc, etc...everything was of the best quality and freshness, especially the bread. Lots of choice, rolls, loaves, white, wholegrain...all super soft. There was also smoked salmon, roast beef, roast pork, hams, cheeses, yoghurts, cereals, nuts, good-quality jam, crackers, fresh soft pumpernickel, fresh fruit, currant buns, pastries, croissants, butter NOT margerine, etc, etc. And all in plentiful, quickly replenished supply with the staff only too pleased to help. The only thing I'd say is the water wasn't quite hot enough in the tea/coffee machine...so 9 out of 10 then. The evening restaurant however was a true revelation. Normally I give the hotels a miss when it comes to dinner as they're normally over-priced and /or poorly made but the last night we were there, we were thoroughly pooped and didn't have the energy to go out looking for somewhere so we decided to eat in the bistro area. The meal was FABULOUS! We gave it 10 out of 10 for everything including the spot -on attentive friendly service. We ordered home-made massive hamburgers (freshly done) that arrived together with a salad that had a tasty spicy mustard dressing and fat chips made with real potato and manually cut, not frozen! on a rectangular almost oriental-style looking ceramic platter. We followed this with a tarte tatin and wonderful good quality vanilla ice-cream and fresh raspberry coulis sauce. Just telling you all this to make your mouths water...YUM!! (I don't believe in being vague when it comes to describing good food). Plus, they had apple juice which is my favourite tipple...and when we ordered coffee & liquers it came with 3 or 4 high quality chocolates, (you know, the ones you buy by weight in a chocolatier) that must have cost something all on their own! My boyfriend has a sweet tooth so his prayer was answered in that very moment! what more could you want? Absolutely faultless and all for about 50euros! Very reasonable...The only 2 sticking points of this hotel?...aggressive air vents that substitute the fact you can't open windows and aggressive rates for using the Internet! (20 euros per hour! Aaargh!!) Come on guys get your act together over this point. Even the NH Utrecht gives its patrons the first 15 minutes free each time you use the PC and they're across the road. However these are the only 2 negatives in a sea of positives. I found it super-quiet, was never disturbed by the cleaning maids in the morning and so much less boisterous than the NH Utrecht. It was almost like being in a spa-hotel it was so relaxing. We will DEFINITELY be booking Park Plaza again when we go back next Spring. Roll on April :-))
