"We stayed at the Park Plaza last Saturday night, I had been concerned after reading some reviews on this site but my fears were unfounded, the hotel was excellent value for money and we had no complaints whatsoever. The room we had was an executive standard one and we paid £103, it was spacious and..."

Stayed here for 2 nights in April 2008. Room nice and big, fantastic bathroom. TV kept turning off after about 3 minutes after we turned it on (how weird!) and staff did not fix it. Great location, really central, though you can hear the noise from the street (even on the 9th floor!!) Great view from so high up though!

I stayed here for two days in each of two consecutive weeks while I was working in a nearby office. This is a passable city centre hotel with nothing extraordinary to commend it. The decor of the public areas is weird (single-armed high-backed armchairs; a foyer bar illuminated from below; a very dark restaurant, presumably themed to suit the fusion cuisine offered there in the evenings); the staff were generally responsive to my (very limited) needs. I didn't encounter the cleanliness problems with my bedrooms that others have. Breakfasts are better on Mondays when (I presume due to the fact that few people stay in the hotel over the Sunday/Monday night) the cooked element is prepared freshly for each customer. Otherwise, expect the usual hotplate fare and trust to providence that it's been recently replenished. The hotel is situated in Maid Marian Way - a depressing stretch of the city's ring road lined with blocks that appear to date from the 1970's or so (the hotel is one of them). The positive thing about its location is that it's very near to the centre of the city (about 250 metres from the City Square) and so most places that you will want to go to can be reached on foot. If going to the hotel by train, it's about a ten minute walk from the city's rail station. The walk will enable you to avoid a Cook's tour around the ring road. Tram freaks may want to take the tram from the station to the City Square and walk from there.

After reading some bad reviews about this hotel we were a little dubious about booking it, but as we were only staying for one night decided to take the risk... and we weren't disappointed, the hotel was great! We booked a special offer 'executive package' room for an extra ?30 which provided us with extras such as toiletries, wine, fruit, mineral water and robes and slippers, but we wouldn't advise this as it was a little disappointing - the bottles of wine were miniscule, and the fruit consisted of an apple, orange and pear! However, the room was fab - huge comfy bed and spotlessly clean. It's location was ideal - about a 3 minute walk from the city centre. The hotel has no car park, but there is an NCP just over the road which we used, and which the hotel subsidises by 30% which helps a little! Directly opposite the hotel on the corner is an Indian restaurant we ate in called 4550 Miles From Delhi - can't recommend this highly enough... their garlic and coriander naan is to die for! Also, try the hotel bar for cocktails - expensive, but a nice treat!

I wish I had read other reviews of this hotel before I booked it. For a 4 star hotel it is really dreadful. For a start the reception is really dingy and unwelcoming. We had driven up and discovered that the hotel has no parking only valet parking where the car is taken to a compound - expensive. The receptionist was miserable and gubby herself. The room was ok - nice big bed and clean sheets. The wardrobe was dusty but generally the standard of cleanliness was satisfactory - the furniture and environment is pretentiously 'modern' and smacks of an airport waiting area so you never feel really relaxed as there is no where to sit and just read a newspaper in a warm comfortable place on a freezing cold day in March! I had to regularly ask for extras - toilet roll, extra sheet, even coffee at breakfast time - there seems to be a lack of motivation for the staff who appeared and disappeared at will! Breakfast was uninspiring - cold plates, pre cooked bacon etc - fruit, cold meats and juice left out uncovered, only sliced bread - no wholemeal, which you had to toast yourself.... in a restaurant that is reminisant of a 70s japanese restaurant which was cold and draughty. Don't be misled by the numerous notices announcing that the restaurant has won awards! We would definately never stay here again and I am sure there are other hotels in Nottingham where the service was of an infinately better quality and you could up grade your room for a bigger bed etc if you wanted the space!
