We spent a week here as part of our Honeymoon after a very busy week in Las Vegas. The hotel was stunning and we were made to feel very welcome with sparkling wine, fresh fruit and bathrobes. We even had a knock at the door on our first night with a plate of wonderful deserts. We ordered room service on the first evening as we had arrived before the resturants had opened and we had not eaten all day. They were very prompt and the food was great. The pool area is spacious and there were no problems in getting a sun bed, although you had to get there early to get a sun brolly, which was needed as the sun was very strong. There are two pools one which is quieter than the other. The pool with the swim up bar gets very busy by late afternoon when everyone seems to get into the pool with a float and a cocktail! The staff are all really friendly, they can not do enough for you. There is entertainment set up everyday both through out the day and in the evening. The Entertainment team are a little pushy to get you to join in but after refusing a few times they let you off! The spa is good and offers a range of treatments. My husband and I had a couples massage which was lovely and relaxing. There are 5 resturants to chose from and all were lovely. The food is well prepared and presented. I would definately recomend this hotel to others looking for a relaxing holiday

Here is the whole truth. The Resort: Beautiful landscape, nice architecture, and kept very clean , with marble floors, beautiful staircases, fountains, and lighting and beams. Service: Excellent. Everyone is friendly but they are little sensitive to being tipped all the time. Rooms: If you are in a room with double beds the rooms are cramped. If you have a king room without it having a balcony and being oceanfront again room is somewhat standard. The only plus side is that the bathrooms are very updated and have marble floors. The bed is hard and other than that the rooms need to be upgraded asthetically.(comforter, furnitishings, plasma tvs) Ocean: Not good. There is not that much beach and the ocean is usually a red color due to alot of seaweed. There are no turqoise waters there. **Beware of the burning smell. the hotel will not tell you but they burn trash close to the hotel so and alot of the time you can smell smoke of some sort. FOOD: Average. 3/5. Room service menu is very limited and has one or two good dishes. Restaurants also food is average. There Japanese restaurant however was the best. And the buffets at the riviera restaurant were pretty good. Pool Scene: Nice pool, but entertainment was pretty cheezy. The poolside bar was great but they only had one server walking around taking orders. Also they don't play much music by the pool at all. The scene: Better for couples or older people, and families. Definately not a single scene. All the restaurants close by 11 and they are not flexible when it comes to keeping it open. Overall its an all inclusive resort. With that said I am surprised my self to be rating it a 3, after reading reviews before I left and seeing how pretty the resort was, but after much thought and being there for a week , I made mental notes of everything so I can write a helpful review. The fairmont Mayakoba next door is much nicer. Lastly, Playa del carmen is a beautiful beachside city. If you plan to stay somewhere with a lot of shops and food options and you want to roam around town then I would suggest the Royal play del carmen, its all inclusive and right in the heart of the city. Yet with all that said I might go again but with my family since I was there with friends, but would make sure that I would get a certain room, and only if mayakoba is booked up. So it would be my third choice out there if I was to go to an all inclusive.

We asked if we could upgrade our room to ocean view upon arriving. They honored this free of charge. The room was beautiful. The bathroom shower was large enough for two. Loved the tub jets (although it would have been nice to have it made for two). The service was excellent. Although tips weren't expected, the staff were appreciative of tips. We enjoyed the food. We asked the waiters what they would suggest and we were not disappointed by their recommendations. Loved the Mexican night, which included Mexican dancers. It was a buffet on the poolside. We were greeted by frozen margeritas. An assortment of Mexican food was available. For those not wishing to go to this buffet, three to four other restaurant options are available. Twenty-four hour service is available. We requested breakfast at 4:30 in the morning the day of our departure and they were there promptly at 4:30 a.m. One portion of the pool is heated, the other is not. We found that the unheated portion was refreshing. The other side was sufficiently large enough to accommodate everyone. We loved relaxing on the blue cushions in the pool. You can simply float to the pool bar and get any type of drink you desire. On New Years Eve, they had an elegant dinner. We opted not to enjoy the live band in the ballroom. Instead, we put on our shorts...grabbed champagne provided in the lobby and sipped champagne on the beach while watching fireworks on the beach from all directions. This is a very romantic and relaxing hotel for couples. The hotel may not be active enough for singles. We enjoyed watching the Patriots vs. The Giants game on a large screen television located right on the beach. Hearing the ocean in back of us..watching the game drinking our favorite alcoholic drink..while watching the Patriots win their game was great. We used the shuttle to return to the airport. Don't pay attention to the people offering to talk to you about Cancun and Mexico..they are from time shares and want you to go their marketing sales pitches. It is a waste of time. On the way home, the gentleman from the shuttle dropped us off at the wrong terminal. Make sure you know which terminal you should be going to. The concierge was very helpful in calling the airport to confirm our return flight and to arrange for assigned seating. Just before we left, for our vacation I saw a review commenting about "this horrible smell". On a couple of occasions for about 1 hour we could smell a faint burning smell. Apparently, periodically refuge is burned by the government a small distance away from the hotel. I did not find it offensive or problematic. The hotel provides all the water and alcohol drinks in your room that you would like. They also provide a SPF 8 sun tan lotion in your room. Found this very helpful. On the last night we were there, the hotel had some problems with the TV reception. They were aware of it and I am certain it was resolved quickly. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting rest, relaxation, pampering and elegant surroundings. As my fiancee would say, "can't say a bad thing about it". He also loved the playboy channel that was available. Never saw him as relaxed as he was during our vacation. Loved our vacation!

We spent a week at Secrets Capri and absolutely enjoyed the experience. Our room was fine, excellent maid service, etc. We found the service to be much faster- bar service, al la carte orders and room service- than our previous visit during March 2006. If the food were kicked up a notch, we would rate this resort a solid 5. If you decide to venture out to Playa del Carmen for dinner away from the resort, check out Casa Mediterraneana for great Italian food- it is small and quaint with great food and ambience- the owners, an Italian couple, work very hard to please customers. We also highly recommend Cancun Valet for more personalized transportation from the airport. Their drivers are prompt and courteous and the vehicles clean. Consistent with previous experiences, we found them to be very professional and reliable.
