We have just returned from a 7 night stay at the Annabelle. I had been worried having read the reviews but this was definitely 5 star - incredibly welcoming (forget standing at the desk to book in, we were given fresh orange juice and a cold towel to refresh us before being shown round the hotel), clean and with excellent facilities. The staff were very attentive without being obsequious, the room was serviced twice a day, the pools were clean and not busy, and the breakfast was great with a wonderful selection. It is also in an excellent position close to the port (although we heard no noise in the evening). Given that Cyprus is experiencing a heat wave it was good to be able to walk quickly to nearby restaurants. We had a hire car booked, and it was useful to have the car park free of charge. Would we go back? - yes, definitely!

Not A 5 Star Hotel But 5 Star Prices

We stayed in May 2008 and booked a standard room for 1 week. On arrival the room was very small and looked onto a back alley. It was not cheap (?1442 b and b package through Ambassador Travel in Hertfordshire). Our request to move to another room was agreed subject to an additional charge! (varied between 82 and 154 euros per night ). The alternative room location and size was what I would have expected for the price of a 5star holiday.NOT A GOOD START!
THE HOTEL IS AN AVERAGE 4 STAR HOTEL AND DOES NOT JUSTIFY THE 5 STAR RATING. There were many problems and issues and the hotel needs to be refurbished. The public area toilets are a disgrace (dirty/smelly and leaks to sanitary ware)We had bugs in the bedroom (3 inch monsters!)
The hotel is tired and is surviving on an outdated believe that it is special (which it is not)
DO NOT VISIT-THERE ARE MANY BETTER OPTIONS IN THE AREA THAT PROVIDE VALUE FOR MONEY AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

We had been recomended to try Paphos and the Annabelle after many years staying in Protaras (Grecian Park) & Ayai Napa (Adams Beach / Olympic Lagoon).
In hindsight we would have been better advised to wait until both the hotel and surrounding area had been up-graded. The hotel is tired un-like the prices single G&T 7.40euro, fresh juice 4.00 euro. Advise you to go across the road for mineral water 12 x 1/2ltr for 1.60euro and any off licence Bombay Gin 1ltr 12.00euro plus 1ltr tonic 2.40euro and as for a ham & cheese toastie at 10.00euro forget it, dinner @ 90.00euro each "have a word".
As for the beach it appears that the local builders/construction workers (of which there are many) have nicked all the sand and left behind a fine covering of dust and grit barely covering the concrete, never heard such a noise when sunbeds are being re-aligned. One saving grace is the nearby watersports with self drive speedboats & jet ski's great fun and really helpful staff.
Laying in the sun or having lunch listeing to concrete breakers and heavy machinery, different !! go back to the area or the hotel I dont think so. 7* prices in a 4* hotel.
After all that moaning it must be said that the gardens are beautiful & hotel staff very helpful its just a shame that re-investment in both the hotel and area hadnt been done over time instead of waiting until all need doing at once.

Just returned - The Hotel has oceans of marble but badly in need
up dating. Our room ( standard ) was roomy with gigantic bed but
the WC needed fixinig 3 times in 14 days and the desk lamp had been smashed and stuck togetjher - def NOT 5 star !
The ground floor rooms had no privacy - with access by anyone passing by.
Pool area nice but beach non-existant. Pool attendant almost invisible. Breakfast OK but nothing exceptional - not 5 star cruiseship standard. BUT dining was ridiculously overpriced =
minimal lunch and table d'hote dinner ( no wine ) cost ?90 ( $180 ) for two - and no one in restaurant and food mediocre - poor.
In all dissappointing -

Love the Annabelle, hate the timeshare touts

We stayed at the Annabelle for 11 nights, this was our 3rd stay and as usual we had an excellent holiday. We paid a little more this time and stayed in a deluxe sea view room, it was well worth the money as the views were amazing and the room was lovely with a massive comfy bed and a big bathroom. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfasts are much improved from the last time we stayed with plenty of choice. The surroundings of the hotel are wonderful and you can also use the facilities of the Alymera Hotel next door.
There is a nice walk behind the Annabelle along the sea front up past most of the major hotels but it is spolit by timeshare touts hanging around. My husband and I were bothered 7 times one morning and it does get very annoying. They are quite aggressive and pull up quickly on scooters and block your path or block the path with a car so you can't get past. After a few days we decided not to go this way as we were totally sick of it, we even heard the touts swearing at tourists. I am ashamed that these people are English and they are totally ruining people's holidays. They were even walking around hotels and leaving the so called winning tickets on empty sunloungers whilst people were in the pool or at the bar. The goverment and police really need to do something or tourists will stop going to Cyprus.
On a more positive note the area from the Annabelle up to the harbour is being pedestrianised and although they are still working on it it will be much more pleasant walking along there now the cars are gone.
There is quite a bit of building work going on along the harbour area but it is going to make Paphos more attractive in the long run but whether I will go back will depend on if the goverment and police can get rid of the scum timeshare touts.
