Charming, historic, close to everything, including the London train 5 minute walk away - there is nothing negative to say about my experience here. I smoke - and they gave me a smoking room overlooking the main street. While a little noisy with the windows open I am not a light sleeper so this was fine as well. The room was decorated in old Country style and the bathroom was very clean - and has a bath tub! I can't say enough about the staff, the bartenders and everyone I associated with. There are alot of locals that hang out in the bar which makes for a cool experience. Everyone was friendly, helpful - the restaurant was a little chaotic with breakfast and it wasn't all that - but I would overall recommend this Hotel for an inexpensive, and convenient location to stay.

I am sorry to say that this is the WORST hotel I think I have EVER stayed in. Granted it IS an old hotel but that does not excuse the problems we encountered. The room was VERY small, noisy (as the secondary glazing did not shut properly), the toilet seat wouldn't stay up on its own, one of the plugs did not work, the TV arial did not work, the bed was very soft (and you rolled into the middle when two people lay on it), ALL of the floorboards squeaked (in the room as well as outside, nothing a joiner could not fix) and the key wouldn't even open the door properly! The corridors were dark and dingy and VERY noisy! I have stayed in listed buildings which are now hotels but this place was DREADFUL. I cannot believe it is part of two major hotel groups and would recommend that the MD's book in to witness it personally! I am sure the "new wing" of the hotel at the rear is slightly better (less noise and bigger rooms) but this place desperately needs a good revamp and not just rely on being the only hotel in Tonbridge which is why it is full on a Saturday night. The decor is tired and is "oldy worldy" but from the 1970's not 1800's which is what it is trying to portray. Alas they have finally built a Premier inn round the corner (but it was full when I tried to book it, now I see why!) The worst thing about it all is it was expensive. If it were a ?30 B&B then the Rose and Crown could have got away with it! This hotel could be wonderful if they fixed it up.

Me and my partner booked this hotel for two nights bed and breakfast last weekend and were really disappointed with it. We were given a pokey little attick room which was noisy and cramped. We went down for breakfast the next morning and were told that we were booked in as room only, so we left the restaraunt and opted for a meal on the high street which was cost us half of what the hotel was charging. I work as deputy housekeeper with best western in Southport so I got in touch with them and they confirmed our booking was bed and breakfast. They contacted the hotel and complained but to no avail. We did get breakfast the next morning but no refund or apology. The staff were really unhelpful and miserable and it was all a very humiliating and embarassing experience. The whole place needs an upgrade ( including the staff). I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone. How they stay open is beyond me!

We stayed at the Rose & Crown Hotel last night, the food was the best we have ever had! Rita in the Restaurant is very caring. Our Bedroom was very clean and we think nely refurbished. The Hotel is having all of the public areas refurbished. This is one Hotel we will go back to.

Centrally located in town centre was the only good thing. The staff was nice, but not efficient. We were here on business for a month. Transferred from the Langley Hotel down the road because it was worse, so we thought. We really had no other choices so we stuck it out. The first room we were in had no cold water. We were told to run the water for awhile and then it would get cold. After 20 minutes, I thought it would get colder . . . . it did not. The second room we had had cold water . . . when we had water. During peak times, the water pressure gets so low that all we got was a trickle or drip of water out of the shower. At night, especially on weekends, it is so noisy we had to choose on being hot and stuffy and quiet, or cool and noisy. Either way, couldn't sleep. They need to refurbish and upgrade on a GRAND SCALE.
