Pleasant memories of a wonderful hotel

We stayed at the Des Indes for two nights. The design of the hotel is really unusual, fascinating and beautiful. It is located in a central but quiet and very nice area. Efficient and friendly service at the front desk and in all the other places of the hotel. Nice clean spa area with a small pool. Only downpoint: I forgot a golden necklace on the desk in my room, when we checked out in the morning. When I called a few hours later, they could not find it anymore.Nevertheless we have very pleasant memories of our stay and want to return some time.

We only stayed one night at this hotel, so we did not have a lot of time to explore the property and enjoy the amenities. The location is excellent, right in the heart of older part of the city, where all the museums, palaces, etc., are located. I think the hotel was built over 100 years ago, but it recently underwent a complete renovation, and was thoroughly modern. The room itself was average size, but nicely decorated. We didn’t eat at the hotel, but it had a beautiful open dining area and there were plenty of business people eating. The only problem we had was with the decorating. This is the third “Le Meridien” property we’ve stayed at, and we’ve noticed a trend. They seem to place a high premium on artistic form, often at the expense of function. For instance, the chair seats were about 6 inches lower than standard, leaving you to feel like you were sitting in a child’s chair. And the sinks in the bathroom sat atop the counter, and were about 16 inches tall, which meant the counter itself was about 16 inches too low. My husband leaned over sideways in one of the lobby chairs, and it actually tipped over. It’s certainly not enough to prevent us from staying at Le Meridien hotels in the future, but more of a strange curiosity. Since I have mobility issues, I should mention that the hotel was wheelchair accessible. However, it does require a special lift to get past the stairs to the reception area and rooms - the lift is hidden behind curtains and tables so every time you enter or leave the hotel, you must wait for assistance from staff. They were always prompt, but it was still a bit of a pain.

We stayed 2 weekends in Des Indes this month and had great experiences both times. We booked the first weekend through the hotel (Euro 190 B&B and Late Check Out) and the second through Expedia as the hotel did not have any rooms left (Euro 155 B&B). The hotel is beautiful and the service and ambience are both fantastic. We stayed in room 236 during the first visit which was Superior Queen, the bedroom was a really good size and the bathroom was huge compared to normal hotel bathrooms and painted a great purple colour - rooms within the same 'class' do vary as my parents had a slightly smaller bedroom and a much smaller bathroom but the room was still gorgeous. The finishing is immaculate and the beds are incredibly comfortable with canopies above them. There are really nice touches such a bathrobes and slippers in all rooms and the hotel's own brand tea which is set out every evening with your turndown service. The second weekend we stayed in room 003 which is very romantic and has it's own private staircase - the room is really big and the bathroom is a good size also. There is very little to fault in Des Indes, the location is great with a wonderful street behind with lots of unique shops, bars and restaurants and being only a short walk from the centre of The Hague. There is no street noise in the rooms, the breakfast is excellent and the concierge is more than helpful. The hotel manages to provide top class service yet remain intimate and personal. My only minor issue would be the front of house staff - they are a little up-and-down and as as they help form your first impression of the hotel I feel some of them could do with a little more training on customer service. Also, beware of the Internet Charge - 60 cents per minute with a max charge of 24 Euro's per day.

Fabulous location to a varity of local establishments and shops. The first step in this Hotel was a greating by the Doorman and Front office staff. Check-in was a dream. The first room assignment was the most intersting I have ever had , it was right off the Grand Staircase, a beautifully decorated room, nice bath and amenities but for a 6'2" man a little cramped. As Starwwood upgraded landed a wounderful room on street level facing the shops next door, for me I like here the street noise, with easy access to the lobby, dinning room and bar. I must say that when I brought friends over for a pre dinner cocktail, they concluded that the bartender was one of the top ten martini makers in the world. Service was professional, timely and courtious. The continental breakfast was delicious and more than enough to start the day. As I indicated, the proximity to a local lambrith of shops, restuarants, wine shops, and local libation providers was a real gift with this location. My two night stay could have been a month to remember. Stay here and enjoy.
