The grand atrium, restored to its former glory, is a marvellous 'sitting and watching' area with an enormous antique chandelier as the centrepiece. The hotel was originally built as the town residence of Baron van Brienen, the personal advisor of King William III. In order to display his wealth, the Baron invested an enormous amount into this magnificent manor house. In 1881, 4 years after the Baron's death, the manor was sold and transformed into an elegant and extremely luxurious hotel, now known as Le Meridien Hotel Des Indes. This majestic building at the Lange Voorhout in the centre of the city has entered the next chapter in its long history.
