"We stayed at Le Meridien from 11/17 - 11/22 and had a wonderful time. We booked our room through AmEx & we highly recommend others do this if possible. Stayed for 3 nights the first week of March after a lousy experience at another Hotel. Wonderful experience from the moment we walked into the Lobby. The staff was polite and followed through on all service requets. Requested and recieved a Suite upgrade on the top floor. The Suite had marble floors, seperate kitchen and two sinks in the bathroom. The pools were great. Construction was going on next door but the noise was never too loud. The pool side food service was prompt and the prices reasonable. The Bus rides were short into town. Ask the concierge for the location of the public bus stop. it is a very short walk and a big saving over CAB fare. The Concierges' knew answers to our questions and helped us every time asked. Not easy as we were a bit demanding. Try the pool side chairs overlooking the beach next to the edge. A fabulous afternoon feeling the warm winds of the Caribean Sea while enjoying great pool side service. The only con is the main restaurant is a bit pricey but the food is good. Wonderful Hotel with great service. Would most definately recommend this Hotel to my friends and business associates.

We stayed there from June 19 - 23. This was our second stay here, the last one being in 2006. It's a great luxury hotel. We booked 2 rooms, one on the Club Level and another one with Starwood points. I had to pay an extra fee to upgrade the free room to the Club Level but it is definitely worth it. There's a great continental breakfast each morning so you can avoid the good, but pricey, buffet downstairs. There is also a cocktail period from 5 pm to 7 pm and we always stopped in for some complimentary beer and wine before dinner each night. The concierge on that level recommended some amazing restaurants, too. Check in was smooth. They greeted us by name at the desk and said "Welcome Back". While we were checking in, they brought us cool towels and a frozen orange drink. Very nice touch. The rooms are a little dated but still perfectly fine and spacious, with a flat screen TV. We requested a balcony with an ocean view. Yes, you can see and sometimes hear, the construction next door, but I think some of the other reviewers are really overstating the inconvenience. It's really not a big deal. The granite bathrooms are large, with a tub and separate walk-in shower. The pool area is fantastic. It's never terribly crowded and you have plenty of choices to lay out. We ended up renting a cabana each day for a reasonable $35. Our waiter, Alfredo, took great care of us. The weather was fantastic the majority of the time. There were a couple periods of showers but those pass quickly. Everyone we encountered on the staff was amazing. We'll definitely return to Cancun and most likely stay at Le Meridien for a 3rd time.

"Limited" Starwood participation. Nice hotel, GREAT!! concierges

This is a nice, small, boutique type hotel. If you like big crowded, high rise hotels this is not for you. Like other starwood prefered guest members that have commented before, I have some mixed feelings. Don't expect any upgrades if you a re a gold member. (I guess platinum will have an upgrade) They will tell you right up front that you are not entitled to any upgrade. (in my case they insisted that I accept the standard room that was assigned tyo me with starwood points) I was even told that I have been spoiled by others hotels in the past. The standard (they call it superior) room has no balcony, and one of the nice things in Cancun is wake up, read a newspaper in you balcony with a cup of coffe. So I was offered an upgrade for $50 a night, then when I spoke to the manager he reduced to $30 because I am a gold member and he would do me a favor. I decided to upgrade with points (2500 extra a night) for a room with Balcony and acces to the Executive club and the SPA. GREAT DECISION!! The executive club (the royal club) has a nice continental breakfast (croissants, bread, cold cuts, cheese, yougurt, Cereal, juice, coffe, fruits) and great snacks in the evening (mini pizzas, tamales, tacos, cookies, etc), plus liquor if you drink. It also has a private concierge for the royal club. The breakfast at the restaurant is very good but very expensive (we tried on our last day) If you eat these everyday you will have 10 pounds more at the end of you vacation and maybe a heart attack, so the breakfast at the royal club was nice and enough. :-) The positives: 1-Concierges. They will remember you name, ask the next day if the restaurants they recommended were good, give you excellent tips and always have a smile. Georgina and Sandra were FANTASTIC!!! 2-The pools. Not super crowded but with great ambiance, nice. 3 pools with cascading effect (although the cascading effect was not working because the motor was broken). Splurge one day and pay $35 for the Cabana in front of the sea with the swinging beds. Fantastic. 3-The Spa. Great showers. much better than in your room. Great shampoo, soap, conditioner, etc. Nice hot and cold jacuzzis. I got a masagge one day and was amazing. The "free tea" is also great. Apples and bananas available all day. 4-The balcony in your room. Small but big enough to order room service, have the table placed in the balcony and enjoy an intimate meal with your significant other. We were very tired one day after snorkeling, and decided not to go out. for dinner. The kids ate inside, my wife an I in the balcony. Although the food was good but not great, it was a beautiful moment. 5-Walking distance to one of the best restaurants in Cancun: Puerto Maderos, an imitation of Caba~a Las Lilas of Buenos Aires. Great steak house and fish. Try the Atun Soya Mantequilla (Tuna in butter soy sauce) a recommendedation of Sandra the concierge. You will leak your fingers if youy like almost raw tuna. Order the dulce de leche panqueques. A clasic argentinian dessert. I still dream about it. The restautant is filled with locals and just not tourist. It is great. Negatives. 1- The beds. Not a Westin heavenly bed or any aproximation. Very standard mattres, pillows, blankets, etc. What a shame. 2-The food and drinks at the pool. Ate one time and was average and expensive. Not worth it. Drinks are watered down and expensive. A plain coconut was $10. 3- Internet. They charge $25 a day in your room. Crazy. More expensive than Europe. 4-Front desk. Besides the first ten minutes that I already mentioned, strange charges would appear in my account every day. A computer glich that had to be manually fixed every day, always with previous consultatyion with management. A waste of time. 5- Ice.Hard to find. Machines broken all the time, and the ones that worked were almost empty all the time. 6-The beach. There is almost no beach, so there is no beach scene. They will put some chairs and an umbrella at the beach if you request it, but you will be the only one down there. I went in the water every day, but you have to be carefull. Rough oceanic beach. Not good for kids. Starwood categorizes this hotel as category 4. It is a category 4. NOT 5, NOT 6 NOT 7. It is a 4. I insist because it is not the JW Marriott or the Ritz Carlton, but it is an hotel that will grow on you, it is confortable, nice, with nice people. Survive the front desk and you will have a good time.

My husband and young son stayed at the resort for 6 nights. When we arrived I saw the construction, and as I was checking asked to be moved if our room was facing that side. This was done on the spot, and our room was ready. The shower was very weak and I called the front desk and it was fixed within an hour, plus they pushed our double beds together so we could have a "king". Turndown service somehow disappeared on two nights. The ice machine was always empty. The blow dryer died, and that too was replaced quickly. The facilities are beautiful, though I did find cigarette butts and limes around the pool area in the morning, and that's gross. The beach is the best in the area, and typically was not as rough as surrounding beaches. The dinner waiter at St. Trop was sincerely nice and a hard worker. Some of the pool staff were also genuinely nice, not just looking for a good tip. The food is very mediocre (except breakfast) and OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. Really. Overall, however, we had an excellent time, and it was fun to have staff remember my name, which was impressive. My son loved the pools, and he was welcomed with a giant chocolate chip cookie which was delish. Recommend anyone staying here go to the supermarket downtown or to walmart and stock up on water, juice, chips and things of that nature or you will spend a ton of money at the pool. We didn't really dine much outside of the hotel. Try Fish Fritanga for lunch or a very early dinner (closed by 7pm). They have a lagoon side dining area down some stairs so don't be fooled by the street side appearance. The food was average to good and fairly priced, plus they have a bar. My son was able to feed a baby alligator in the lagoon at dinner. Le Meridien has potential, but the management seems to need some tweaking. People got sick from eating at St. Trop and the management replied, "We are a 4 star hotel". So you can't get some bad chicken? Stupid. The manager doesn't seem to have good people skills and must not have heard about customer satisfaction bringing return business and recommendations. One other complaint is that NOTHING is complementary here, and you begin to feel nickel and dimed.
