Well, this hotel is away from both Southampton and Portsmouth, so if you are looking for something to see the sights then it isn't ideal. It is nice though. It is in a very quiet area in the countryside, which gives it a certain appeal. It is perhaps 30 - 40 minutes from the city, and around 20 - 25 minutes from the nearest mcdonalds / Pizza Hut. There is a nice town quite nearby with some stuff.

This is in a lovely setting, with a golf course and beautiful grounds, and ample car parking. When we stayed here, the hotel was undergoing refurbishment – but they made this clear when I booked and also in a phonecall the day before arrival. So we were well warned about the refurbishment and this, in itself, was not a problem.
The rooms appeared to have been recently refurbished and had very nice d?cor and furnishing. They were not air conditioned, and tended to get rather warm, although we left the window open and were not disturbed by noise.
The rooms and bathrooms were clean and well equipped, with everything you would expect in a hotel of this standard.
However, we did encounter some problems.
Firstly, TV reception was poor in both (ground floor) rooms occupied by our party, and in one of the rooms BBC1 was entirely unwatchable. (I note that two previous reviewers, in reviews from 2007, also mentioned poor TV reception.)
Secondly, and more importantly, there was a problem with the thermostat on the bath/shower in one of our rooms – first noticed late in the evening, when we thought it may be a temporary problem - but in the morning, too, the water would only run stone cold! As soon as we notified reception in the morning, they sent someone to fix it straight away - so we didn’t ask for any compensation, although it would have been nice to have been offered some token of recompense for the inconvenience.
Thirdly, on departure, we found we had been charged for newspapers – these had been delivered to our rooms but, as we had not requested them or been asked if we wanted them, we had assumed they were complimentary! When we pointed this out, they agreed that it was a mistake and deducted the charge. (Again, however, I notice that another previous reviewer also mentioned an issue with newspaper charges.)
We looked at the leisure centre when we arrived – it looked nice, but very busy. (I don’t know if it was quieter at other times, as we didn’t look again.)
We dined in the Treetops Restaurant one evening. This was quite pricey, but the food and service were excellent.
The food at the breakfast buffet was also good - but very busy on the Sunday morning, when they seemed to be struggling to keep up replenishment.

We are a family of two adults and two young teens and we stayed at this hotel over Easter and found it overall to be of an excellent standard. We had a special Easter getaway room only rate. All my pre-arrival requests had been met for the room that we had been assigned to. However I had been emailed confirmation of a suite but on arrival was told that there were none available. This was not a problem however as the extra bed that I had requested was already in the room and made up and the room was of a decent size and I saved ?30 by not having the suite.
Room was very clean and was probably one of the warmest rooms that I have ever stayed in which for me was excellent. The hotel is very conveniently placed for visiting Southampton, Portsmouth and surrounding areas and Winchester is about ? hour drive away.
Check-in and out were both very quick and efficient and all encounters with staff were of a very high and courteous standard. We did not eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on that. We did order room service one night and after having been told it would be about twenty minutes, I had to phone after nearly an hour to see where it was. It eventually arrived after another twenty minutes but like it says on the menu if it’s more than 45 minutes late, there is no charge and I was happy to see on the bill the next day that there was in fact no charge. The food was delicious and we would definitely have it again.
My husband and daughter used the pool, sauna and steam facilities and had no complaints.
On a final note, I realised too late to return that I had left my phone charger still plugged in. The following day I called the hotel who said they would look for it for me and within five minutes rang back to say that they had found it and that they would send it to me. I can report that they did just this and within a few days my phone and it’s keeper were happily reunited.
I would stay here again if in the area.

Went over New Years (3 nights) with kids and grandkids and were upgraded to two junior suites which were excellent.
The location is about 4 miles off the M27 between Portsmouth and Southampton and it has a golf course which always appeared busy.
Our stay was only spoiled by the poor food quality both at breakfast and lunch. I felt that the staff were poorly trained and did not listen to what was ordered and just shrugged when it was all wrong.
Eventually I saw the Operations Director and pointed out the various food problems and I can only say that our breakfast on the final morning was all that it should be at a Marriott.
Would I stay there again....maybe.

Just returned from a weekend break. Plenty of parking spaces, and well managed and maintained golfing facilities. Booked one of the junior suites which we were disappointed with. Very dated and in need of redecoration - none of the soft furnishings matched, the furniture was dated. Seat padding in chairs had worn, cobwebs in room. Bathroom was well equipped but had a broken shelf and grubby tiles. For £150 per night we expected a lot better. Room had the feel of a much cheaper travel lodge. Can't complain at all about room service - and we took all of our meals in the privacy of our room. Although on occasions we had to call a couple of times as they didn't answer, the meals arrived promptly and exactly as ordered. If they dont deliver within 45 minutes there is no charge for the meal - whilst we were there they delivered in approx 15 minutes which was very good. The only grumble I would have is that the food was not as hot as I would have liked. Very limited in room dining menu choice but this didn't really bother us as we were only there for the weekend. The minibar is very expensive (can of soft drink £2.26, small bottle of lager £3.75, very small bottle mineral water £1.95) - and there were no prices on display. Pint of lager from room service cost £3.75. Tray charge for meals in room £2.50. In summary, friendly staff, nice location and facilities, but disappointing room which lets the hotel down. 4* facilities, 2-3* room.
