Great service, good hotel

I recently stayed at the South Bend Marriott for one night, and I was very pleased with the service of the staff. They had a lot of customers when I checked in, but they were quick and accurate with everything. There were other times that I was in contact with hotel employees, and they were very helpful and courteous.
The hotel itself is showing its age a little but, but it's still a nice place. The bed was new, but it was too soft, and I had a difficult time sleeping. Other than that, though, it was a good place to stay.

I was a guest at the South Bend Marriott for one evening in April 2008.
The entrance just off St. Joseph's has rather limited parking and I did not notice a valet stand. Fortunately, parking ) in the underground garage (at $7/day) was plentiful. Check-in was quick and friendly.
My room (740) came with a "river view". I suppose that some may find this attractive, but I wasn't overly impressed - the river looked gross & highly polluted. The room was surprisingly small - the king size bed (which was extremely comfortable) completely dominated the floor space. A single sitting chair and foot stool took what little room remained between the bed and window. The bathroom was clean, but likewise small.
As others have noted, there are multiple quality restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The desk staff wasn't all that helpful for us when was asked for recommendations - the best information they offered was that one place had a dress code. Based on the recommendation of a set of guests who were checking in, my companion and I made a 4-5 block walk down Washington to the Tippecanoe Place Mansion. It was delightful. The Irish pub within the hotel/bank complex was also visited - we thoroughly enjoyed our well mixed drinks.
The concierge lounge, available to gold & platinum level guests had a nice layout of breakfast foods and offered free wi-fi internet access.
Check-out was quick and friendly.

As this was my first overnight stay in South Bend I can't say how this hotel compares to other choices in the area, but I can say that I was glad I stayed here. Location is ideal, easy access in and out off of state route. Near pubs, restaurants, music venues and museums. On site parking was $8, which I find reasonable for a downtown hotel, altho the previous reviewer was right about the narrow and limited garage. Check-in and check-out were a breeze with every staff member we encountered friendly, smiling and helpful!
We were given a 7th floor rooom overlooking the river. Noise was not an issue, but I often request a room away from the elevator, as this was. Our room (double double) was very clean, carpets well cared for, bathroom was spotless and all fixtures in working order and good condition. It wasn't the hottest shower I ever had, but it was adequate, nice shower head. Bathroom ammenities included aromatherapy soap/shampoo/lotion and a hairdryer. Towels were soft and clean and plentiful.
The beds were very comfortable (on the softer side) with crisp sheets and extra pillows. There was a coffee maker in the room with coffee/cream/sugar but no tea selection. Soda machine ($1.50) and ice in vending area, no snacks. Did not watch tv, but channel guide seemed to offer the standard fare.
The on site Irish pub was cozy and stylish, and while the food fell short of expectations, they really are trying with an inventive menu. Nice beer selection; our boxty appetizer was presented beautifully, but was cold and too chewy. Service was good. The crowd grew noisy (it is a bar) as it got later. Priced just above average. I'd go back for drinks, but out for a meal.
I was pleased with this hotel, and think it deserves it's three star rating. I paid a discounted fee for the room ($100) as it was not a sports-event weekend. Would stay again at that rate.

Stayed at the South Bend Marriott for a wedding in December. Experience was very good. Value was fantastic for a Saturday night! Had an interesting room that overlooked a large glass atrium, and had a view of the College Football Hall of Fame. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are in South Bend.

More of a business hotel. Hard to find the entrance of the hotel as there was some construction. Hard to find the parking entrance of the hotel. Found it by chance. Parking was expensive and very narrow and limited.
Near Morris Theatre. Very convenient.
Food was expensive for breakfast at the hotel.
