"We stayed at the GP January 18 - 25th, 2007. We were travelling with 3 oher couples making it 8 in total. The GP turned out to be one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at!! It was great in ever aspect - I have absolutely no complaints. Upon arrival, we were greeted immediately and our bags were..."

My husband and I decided to take a mini vacation in Cancun and utilized Apple Vacations 5 for 5 concept of them picking a 5-star hotel prior to our arrival. We did not know the hotel where we were staying until the day before our arrival. Our idea of a 5-stat and their's is two different animals. Dont' get me wrong, we did enjoy our stay, but we first had to upgrade our room so we could have an ocean-front view, then we had to upgrade just to get a refrigerator in our room that was not supplied with any type of beverage unless you upgraded even higher, which was $75.00 more per night! In our experience with 5-star hotels there is always a stocked refrigerator in the room with ocean view and room service does deliver alchohol. Well on with the good part of our trip! We truly did enjoy the people at the hotel and the food was okay! Not a huge selection, but okay! The best restaurant at the resort is the Shangri-la! I must say that that restaurant was a 5-start restaurant! The food was fantastic, presentation wonderful and the margaritas great! We actually ate there three times while we were there! The Barn has wonderful tortilla soup! We enjoyed the music and tequila volleyball around the pool and it was nice to have a bar on the beach so you did not have to go up to the pool every time you wanted a drink! The weather was fantastic - in the 90's - except for the hurricane our last day there! Wow! What an experience! We are wondering how in the world they are going to get the beach back to normal after that one! It's amazing what mother nature can do! In recommending this resort we would have to caution that it is a little dated, but if you room is not that important for you, it is fine! Also, we loved not having any kids running around since this was an all-adult resort! Yahoo!

We have just returned from cancun five days ago after a fantastic holiday. I was travelling with a group of friends aged 23 and iv had the best holiday ever!!! This was my second trip to cancun, 1st yr stayed at blue bay club but this was so much better! We arrived at the hotel after a long flight to be greeted with a cocktail and a comfy chair while we checked in very nice. All our luggage was took to our rooms and the staff were very welcoming. When we got to our rooms we found them to be very spacious with a massive balcony, The rooms were very well air conditioned and also very clean. The bathrooms were big and had a large mirror. We was a bit dissapointed not to have a sea view but our lagoon view was still nice. A tip to all dont go on the balcony and shut the door after you, there were a few incidents where people got trapped on the balcony and had to shout for help. Food was fantastic and even if you was hungry in the early hours you could get something to eat, as we did quite often after returning from the clubs. Room service is also available 24 hours. Even fussy eaters could find something as they have a wide variety of food. The staff without a doubt were the best thing about this hotel. They were amazing and we made good friends with a lot of them. The entertainment staff,Ruban,Vanessa,Roberto,Elenka ,Ivan who entertained us daily with tequila volleyball and many other activities. We also had many great nights out clubbing and a few drunken nights in the beer garden at the hotel with these!!! Also the bar staff were excellent and we was never left without a drink, thankyou Carlos,Freddie,Edith and Sonia. Anyone going to this hotel will have a fantistic time, wish i was still there and i wouldnt hesitate to return. Kirsty, Kelly, Gemma and Shelley xxxxx

We have stayed at the Golden for 4 years. this year we changed plans and went to Riviera Maya. What an eye-opeing experience. Durint the four years at GP the desk crew changed very little and the attitude of the few in charge was horrible. The last two years we stayed (2006 and 2007), the time-share crew was on full alert and could not understand why we would not want to visit the sister hotel. All it took was having a meal there to clinch that decision. In comparison to where we stayed this year, the GP appears like a low end hotel. At GP there were tears in the sheets, covers, curtains, the iron and board needed to be replaced, door knobs were loose and the doors did not close fully. These problems did not appear to be addressed in the four years that we stayed at GP. We did like the fact that this was adult only and the wait staff, etc. went above and beyond to make you feel welcome. After reading some of the experience of current travelers coupled with our last two stays, a recommendation for GP cannot be given to travel to Cancun only to meet with such disappoinment.

This was the first time my boyfriend and I were taking a vacation with just the two of us. From the moment we walked into the hotel we were greeted with smiling faces, a cold drink, and cold scented towles! We were also offered a room upgrade for 20 USD a night, but we did not feel like it was a scam. Our orginal room had a view of the parking lot (not very romantic) The upgrade was on the 5th floor and had an AMAZING view of the water. I highly recommend the ocean view room. Nothing was nicer than eating breakfast on our balcony with that view!! Everyday our maid would decorate our room with "towel art" and flowers. The hotel was very VERY clean, although it is a little bit old and outdated. To us, a hotel is a place to sleep and shower. We were not too worried about how newly renovated it was. As long as it was clean and the people were nice,,which it was!!! We were never bothered by time share people. We booked all of our trips with our represenative and he was also helpful and never pushy. The entertainment staff was so much fun Overall a great trip! Important things to note: * use American money. Also PLEASE do not bring anything larger than fives and ones, maybe a few tens. You will not need anything larger in the hotel or while shopping. * Tipping even a few bucks at dinner or at the bar will get you a long way. My cup was never empty at the Tiki bar. Jose is the bartender and he is AMAZING. He really trys to get to know the guests. At one point he saw us walking to the bar and had our drinks waiting for us!!! * three our of the four places to eat at dinner served mostly fish and seafood..which we do not like. Keep that in mind if you dont like fish either * take the bus its only 65 cents and goes everywhere! Cancun is a strip so you cant get lost. all the buses take the same route Im sure I am leaving a lot out. Any questions please ask! Im sorry other people did not have a good experience :-( We honestly had a wonderful, relaxing, and fun filled time!
