"I stayed for 4 nights in the Grande Bretagne in Athens in January 2007. Overall the hotel is very nice, in a lovely classic style. If you want a modern, boutique hotel this wouldn't be for you, as it is in a very grand style. The room I stayed in was lovely, very ornate with a super marble bathroom..."

I recommend this hotel for: An amazing honeymoon.
We stayed one night at the Grande Bretagne before embarking on a cruise, and on the whole it was a fine experience. The hotel is beautifully situated on a square diagonal to the Parliament building, and our room had a balcony with a direct view of the Acropolis. The rooftop terrace restaurant is beautiful and has a breathtaking Acropolis view. We regret not dining there. The buffet breakfast served there is opulent and the service excellent. The negatives were the zoo-like scene at the small rooftop pool and the mobbed lobby at check-in and check-out. In both cases the hotel was simply overcrowded and disorganized. Even so, I would stay here again.

I stayed here for work so can’t talk about the price of the room, though I did see that the breakfast was 50+ Euros. I had dinner at the rooftop restaurant; it seemed obligatory after reading reviews here. The view of the Acropolis is breathtaking, a rare moment of beauty. I recommend seeing it in the daytime and at night. The restaurant’s prices are a bit steep though – the wine list is a bit of a cheek. I found that this applied to the bar downstairs too: 21 Euros for three coffees. The rooms are comfortable; the bathroom is modern and very nice. The only thing I would criticize is the decoration, a bit stifling in my opinion (a lot of magazines, brochures, notes and all very rococo) but that’s the only flaw these rooms would have, really.

Outstanding hotel. The rooms are large and beautiful. The concierge service is very helpful. Try to get breakfast as part of your package, so you can look at the Acropolis as you sip your coffee. The rooftop restaurant has excellent food for dinner also.

We booked this hotel through an Athens travel agent and could not have been more pleased. The entire hotel is elegantly decorated and our room was perfect. We had a nice view of the city from our balcony. The view from the roof-top restaurant was great with a clear view of the Acropolis. The service was also very good. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Simply a fantastic hotel, with great charms and a spendid athmosphere. The rooms are nice, with great bathrooms. There is of course aircondition and a flat screen TV. My wife and I stayed for four days in may 2008, when it was very hot (37 C). Yhe pool area at the rooftop was terrific. We went for walks in the morning, and then enjoyed the pool during midday when it was at its hottest. Then we went out to enjoy the city and eat in the evenings. Of course you pay for all this luxuary, but to us it was worth every penny!
