There are plenty of other hotels in the area. And a lot of them are probably also cheaper. But this hotel was so impressive and so perfectly located, that I just think they give great value for money. What else can you ask for?
Close to the Cathedral (literally a stone throw away), close to a zillion restaurants, close if you want to walk on the city wall.
If this hotel was in London, they would charge around 250 GBP/335 EUR) a night - we paid one third of that!
Give yourself this chance to splash out a bit and take a truly great hotel when staying in Avila.
Oh - and go to "Restaurante Tres Siglos" for dinner - I have lived in Spain for 3? years and they served me a dinner that was definitely in the Top 3 for all my Spanish restaurant visits.
Ask somebody for the way - it is only around 200 meter from the hotel in the pedestrian street with a lot of restaurants next to each other. Go for their Cuchinillo (Suckling Pig) if you want the best.

I stayed here for one night, April 12, 2008 on a drive back to Madrid. I really liked this hotel. Although it is hard to drive to, once you find the hotel and its garage, it is a great place to stay. It is right next to the Cathedral and you can walk to all places quite easily in this relatively small town. The common area of the hotel is a courtyard that is very beautiful and the rooms are located along walkways that surround the courtyard. Our deluxe room was just about 100 Euro a night which I thought was great value for the price. The room was definitely large by European standards and very clean. We didn't eat at the hotel, but went to a small restaurant in the neighborhood that we really enjoyed (I wish I had taken a card to tell you the name). The hotel has a nice little bar in the lower level.

We arrived late afternoon in Avila for one night stay at the Palacio. I was assigned a room in the attic which was very hot and a bit cramped. I asked to be moved as the room was so hot and the air-conditioning did not work. The helpful man on the front desk advised me that the airconditioning was only available from May to September. I asked to be moved to a more spacious room and this he did reluctantly. The rooms are furnished to a good standard but there are cigarette burns on the carpet from unthoughtful visitors and the sheets had a small tear. The breakfast buffet was above average and enjoyable. Would I stay there again? Yes I would provided it was when the A/C was available.

Well, this is probably the best price for value we had in Castille.
Location is perfect, in front of the Cathedral, could not be better. The hotel is a big think of 150 rooms, but you really don't feel it, seems a boutique hotel. The old building has been carefully upgraded and renovated (pics are on display about the work, it is impressive). The covered patio (courtyard) is stunning, perfect for a quiet drink, rooms are nicely decorated.
Staff was OK, nothing special to say, good or bad. Only (small) bad point would be the ugly false patio that they use for breakfast, but this is a very minor criticism.
Definitely a place to recommend.
