This hidden gem is located in the village of Grottaferrata, just outside the Rome ring-motorway south east of the city. The village itself is quite unassuming, and is surrounded by suburbia with quite large houses (rather than apartment blocks). There are some nice shops. The hotel is in a quiet street off the main drag, and overlooks a small park. We did not expect what we found inside, a small intimate boutique hotel rivalling the best anywhere, with every facility and staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. Our room was opulently furnished and the bathroom had magnificent mosaics on the walls which must have required great effort. We very much enjoyed the 3m diameter whirlpool bath. The restaurant is next door to the hotel, and apparently has a very good reputation in Rome, it was easy to imagine why, suffice to say the food was exquisite and the atmosphere enhanced by the opulent displays of fresh fruit and vegetables and hams hanging from the ceiling.
