No hot water but slept like a log

When going over to Koblenz in December 2001 (not 2003, but that was the earliest year in the drop-down), I had the problem of arriving on Boxing Day (Dec.26), when most hotels were closed. The only one I had found that was open was Hotel Höhmann on Bahnhofsplatz, and reserved a room by email, which was convenient and a good service. It was an expensive choice for my very limited budget, but the youth hostel (where I had stayed last time I was in town) was closed.
The location was very convenient, as I arrived by train, and it's just a stone's throw away from the train station.
I was given the keys and went to the room, where there were two beds. I had only booked a single room, so was a little concerned I would be charged for a double - or having to share it with a stranger - but they assured me it was in order, and I would only pay for a single room.
The room itself was on the first floor and not very big but had an impressively high ceiling. The window overlooked the back of the hotel.
The hotel seemed quite dated - the room smelled a bit old, but nothing really off-putting. The bathroom was dated as well. I was thinking of having a shower, but couldn't get the hot water to work, for some reason, so gave up the idea. I was going to a different hotel the next day anyway (this was pre-planned before I began the journey), so it didn't matter.
I slept like a log - partly down to having spent the previous night on a bus. The next day, when I was getting dressed, someone knocked on the door and then came in - the cleaning lady. This was my fault - because the room had two "front doors", I thought the knocks I heard were for another room, and didn't answer (plus I didn't understand what she was saying).
Didn't have breakfast there, as that was an additional cost which I could not afford. All in all, perhaps not the greatest of hotels, but it served its purpose.

We decided to book this hotel due to its good Location, we were Honeymooning in Germany and the final stint of our Holiday was the German Grand Prix, the hotel was opposite the bus stop which had buses running directly to the Nurburgring.
I booked this hotel after looking on the hotels website and it got an decent review on this site. The website seemed to make the Hotel look very good, which it wasn't, I booked the rom on the website and was in contact with a member of staff from the Hotel by email. They seemed very helpful so I had no worries about booking this Hotel.
When we arrived at the Hotel we were looked after pretty well. I didn't get an impression of cleanliness in the hotel reception (at all). We were told our room no and given our keys etc, parked the car up and went to check out our room (please bear in mind we were on our Honeymoon and our previous two hotels on this trip had been the Swissotel in Berlin and Le Meredien Parkhotel in Frankfurt) we had been to two extremely nice hotels and were not expecting to stay at somewhere like this.
It was smelly, dirty, disgusting! I have never stayed in a hotel this bad in Germany (we have stayed in many hotels here before), it made us both very down and after one night we checked out and booked into another hotel in Cologne. Which is like a palace compared to this place and wasn't that much more expensive. I think this hotel is in need of a complete re-fit and/or new management. It was very expensive for what it is and the only thing it has going for it is the location. Damp horrible place that ruined our Honeymoon!

Hotel Hoehmann has good location, so-so rooms

We stayed at the Hotel Hoemann because it was convenient to the train station - it's literally right across the street. We parked our car in the garage at the train station (discounted rate thanks to the hotel), took a train south to Bingen for the night, then took a Rhein river cruise back to Koblenz the next day and we spent that night at the Hotel Hoemann. The hotel is 5-6 blocks from the boat docks, so we got a taxi since we had parents with us. Taxi fare was 5,10 Euro. There are a few free parking spots available in the hotel's lot located behind the hotel, but parking is very tight and difficult unless you have a very small car.
The rooms were clean, but the bathrooms were a bit dated. The windows blocked out all of the noise from the train station, but since it was hot the room got stuffy quickly. The hotel has a lift, which our parents were thankful for. Breakfast the next morning was good with typical German fare.
We could have stayed at a hotel with more personality, but for one night the Hotel Hoemann was fine.
