I recommend this hotel for: Tourists, Young singles, An amazing honeymoon.
I specifically booked a non smoking room as I'm slightly allergic to cigarette smoke (and also stale smoke stinks anyway), but despite checking it at 2.00pm there were none left so I was given a smoking room. God knows what time you have to check in to get a non-smoking.
I think I've been in larger bathrooms in some hotels than the size of my single room.
And then the next morning the hot water wasn’t working in the shower or taps, therefore the water coming out was extremely cold. I informed reception who told me they'd sort it. They rang me back to say it had been sorted and give it a minute. 10 minutes later the water was still just above freezing, so I could not take a shower and had to have a wash in the sink with cold water.
And all for the bargain price of £70.

Just returned from a last-minute romantic weekend break in Newcastle, the party capital of England. We have been several times before and always had a good time but on this occasion our choice of hotel really put a brake on our enjoyment of the city.
Our choice of hotel was limited due to the popularity of Newcastle with weekend partygoers and the lateness of our booking so our expectations were realistic that we would not be staying in the lap of luxury. Even so, we felt sure that the Best Western badge and three stars from the AA should provide a minimum degree of comfort for the £80 per night the room would cost.
The hotel was out of town at the end of the strip of student bars along Osborne road and had all the faded glory of a Fawlty Towers establishment (eg, worn eyesore carpets, unrenovated 1970's bathrooms, narrow windy staircases, no lift, and amateurish service).
The main source of our dissatisfaction, however, was the terrible night of sleep afforded to us by the smallest double bed I have ever seen anywhere let alone in a hotel. My partner is a modestly proportioned 5'6'' and even her feet were hanging over the end of the bed. I'm 6'1'' so I had to explore all sorts of tetris-like strategies to ensure mattress support for the night. Because of a wedding function that night there were no alternate rooms, so we were stuck.
I am motivated to write this note so that no-one else need suffer our fate. Avoid this hotel in general and room #33 in particular even if it is the last available room in Newcastle.
